Roll Call - MN contingent? (Part 1)

Who was out at Stoneridge on Friday morning? I ran into a few NLU tees & left a few of my own. Was hoping to run into them at the clubhouse around the finish. So good seeing NLU in the wild.

Southern Hills is a sneaky good course for the value. Was very impressed with their greens when I played there a month ago…good luck gentlemen!

Well despite being reminded why I am an amateur golfer with a day job and shooting 85 at the MGA Qualifier in 20+ MPH gusty winds, I would highly recommend playing Northfield golf club if you ever get south of the metro. I really enjoyed the old school treed layout and the greens were mint/very fast today. Don’t think I’ve putt much over 10 on the Stimp this year and would be shocked if these weren’t at least 11.

Based on the comments from @LonnieMollo and @BaxterMSP I booked a tee time at Southern Hills for Friday morning. I know nothing about the course, but have to assume it’s an old farm course just based on the location.

Anything else of note @BaxterMSP?

My wife and I were members at Southern Hills for 3 years. Went private this year so am no longer there. It is a fun little course. It is in really good shape considering how much play they get. They have been putting some money into it as well. They reworked the irrigation, and some bunkers within the last couple years. Added a short game area. Was a great value for the membership as well. Paid like 2,200$ for the couple’s membership for the year and that included cart and range.

@tjl_48 has you covered on this one. Can get windy out there as pretty much the entire course is exposed. Just have to say I was very pleasantly surprised by the greens, which is a big deal for quality of play.

I am assuming greens are still a little on the slow side this early in the year. When they get a little baked out later in the summer if your above the hole your going to have a tough time. Some of the greens have some pretty severe slopes.

Trying to think of some other notes. Creek is reachable on 1. If you hit driver even up the right side of the fairways it doesn’t take much to find it. 3 is an almost drivable par 4 but don’t think it’s worth going for it. Green is fairly narrow so personally I’d rather have 75-100 in the fairway. With the fairway sloping up by the green almost impossible it hit it close to the green. On 5 the fairway slopes hard over the hill. Hard to keep it in the fairway of you bomb it over that one too. Fairway is farther left than you think on 12. It’s a blind tee shot.

All that said for the most part the rough isn’t all that penal.

That sounds great. For $34 my expectations are relatively low. Sounds like solid track though.

Looking forward to it, and will report back. Thanks @tjl_48 and @BaxterMSP

I have enjoyed it in the past. Typically pretty quiet. Some bland holes, but I think a great value. However it was the final straw that pushed me to go private, through no fault of the course. Back in my PCC days, I played in the PCC Championship at SH. It was a scramble in October and the high temp ended up being about 37 deg. We were encouraged to pick up after double bogey, which of course meant people were putting out like the Masters. The round took 6 hours and the group in front started yelling at me when I suggested someone should just pick up after they hit 2 drives OB on the par 5 first. Yikes.

One thing that doesn’t come through on Google maps is there’s a decent amount of elevation change. I had fun out there a few years ago, just a little far from where I was living to make it a regular stop. Playing -2 on the last 6 holes leaves me with good memories from the place haha

I booked an 11:10am tee time at Chaska TC this Sunday 6/21. @DuckDuckGreyDuckHook has claimed one of the spots - two more up for grabs if anyone else wants to join us.

I don’t think I’m going anywhere any more…but that 67 from last summer was due to fall off this spring, and finally has.

Could this be the end of the run for the dark horse? Stay tuned.

Tommy plays great EVERY time I play with him. He’s gonna be a threat from #1 to #19 and everywhere in between. I know this.

Let’s just say thank god its match play, as I tend to pile up strokes in bunches, as opposed to the slow burn.

Over 14-16 holes I play like a single digit handicap, if you count all 18 I’m a 13.
