Roll Call - MN contingent? (Part 1)

It really depends where you live. I was part of it for 2 years and had to drive a ways to play a lot of the courses that were “free” with the normal monthly due. I’d say if you play a lot during the week and have a few courses by you it’s definitely worth it. The blackout time on the weekend is a bigger killer than I thought as my second year in PCC my golfing shifted to the weekend. I live in St Louis Park, so even the minneapolis courses on there I had to pay on the weekend as they were tier 2. One thing to keep in mine is it’s $55 / month but you obviously pay all year round so you need to play at least 3-4 PCC courses per month to make it worth as it’s more like $110/month. It’s possible, but I didn’t like how much I was driving and the issue I have with belonging to ANY club is I like playing different places and if I wasn’t at PCC I felt like I was wasting money.

Yesterday I noticed I could see grass on my lawn. Could feel the golf itch trigger deep in my plums…

We’re not hitting 40, according to the forecast, but 30’s for the next full week. So excited, man. My daughter came running in our living room the other day and said DAD I CAN SEE GRASS. Everyone is ready for this snow to go.

I also think, in my non-expert opinion, that this winter was pretty easy on the turf, so hopefully we won’t see the winterkill issues of the past couple seasons.

Also be ready to get your e-mail spammed by messages from the director of it about how to behave as a PCC member. Not a big deal, but kind of a annoying to be told over and over again to buy food/bev/merch from courses and act a certain way. I get why he does it, but you can’t help feeling like a child as he puts it in EVERY e-mail and social media post.

The big killer for a lot of the grass is when it warms up early like this, the grass wakes up, then it gets dumped on with a few more weeks of snow and cold temps.

That drives me nuts. Or tells us to take carts to give more revenue to the courses. Dude, that’s not the deal.

Make sure you’re SUPER polite and get there at least 20-30 minutes early. I mean, if he packed my lunch and wrote me a note saying he loved me I would, but he doesn’t so give it a rest.

I’m sure there is a reason for it.

The end goal is good, courses get more revenue. The problem is it’s marketed as a great deal to play affordable golf, but after getting in you get blown up to spend more money. It comes across more as a plea to help his PCC business as opposed to being about the courses.

I’m sure that’s how he sells the idea to the courses, because I really don’t they get much from the PCC in monthly revenue. It’s probably more of a promise to drive traffic to the respective course with the increased traffic leading to increased revenues on carts, F&B, merch, etc.

I wonder how much he keeps for himself?

It’s just a little annoying that a lot of us assign value to the membership because we walk and don’t generally blow our loads on the beer cart (not that there’s anything wrong with that), and then get hit up constantly like we’re doing it wrong.

I know a few local pros who say he’s doing more than just fine. But who knows, there is always two sides.

Oh that’s exactly the pitch, otherwise there’s no incentive for the courses unless they want their course to get beat up more. I’ve heard it’s pretty nice paycheck as he has a couple thousand members and minimal staff. I’ll give him credit that it appears he works really hard at it.

May see the one or two who try to be “first” every year, but my guess is a lot wait until mid-March at the earliest.

I live in the North metro but I travel by car a lot for work, which is mainly why I’m considering it. My sales territory includes all of MN and IA so I think I would be able to put it to good use when I’m on the road. The guy sounds like a prick though

Well mid-March is only 2 weeks away so that’d be wonderful

I think the guy means well. I also believe its a side business and he works full time as a chiropractor, but don’t quote me on it. I will say he’s done a fair amount to keep courses open. I know they lobbied Lino Lakes and Anoka County pretty extensively to keep Chamonix from closing last year, so I think his heart is in the right place.

I’m also guessing there are a fair number of people in that need the reminding, and if you’re the one that gets the call when they do act up it’s probably worth mentioning to everyone.

I’ve definitely thought of joining, unfortunately the course closest to my house that is a member is overran with league play morning and night during the week so it would be almost impossible to use the PCC membership there.

How does it feel to be called out by name on the Nest pod? Any sponsors you want to thank?

I’d just like to thank the C-suite for answering, we’d been wondering what costs were going to be when we met up at the simulator last weekend.

I did have to laugh more at Tron’s reading of @munihack7’s tagline…

I wouldn’t say anything that strong as it’s just a constant reminder in e-mails. If anything I’d just say he comes off as a bit “much” and a little too sales-y and pushy with how he wants his members to behave.
