All great courses.

Love Red Hawk. I do a golf trip to Lakewood Shores in Oscoda every September and a few of us that actually care to play a decent course tack on an extra day to play Red Hawk (makes up for the tough conditions at Lakewood at least). Played in the thickest fog I’ve ever experienced last year, made for a fun round.

Red Hawk might be my top underrated course in the state since Pilgrim’s has gained some decent notoriety. Lakewood is in tough shape for sure lol, surprised that it’s lasted this long.

Really wish someone that cared and had money bought Lakewood, the Gailes could be such a cool course. But great spot to get drunk and play golf with your friends that aren’t sickos. Minus the prison beds.

I’m planning on hitting Wolf River Golf Park on the 21st. Probably 10am if I can get out of the house by 6am.

Yup. The Lakewood trio and red hawk would be a logistically easy and fun golf trip if that got fixed up

I always thought Katke was fun and usually in good shape. A couple holes you can take or leave, but routed pretty well. They have an excellent range and practice facilities in general since the PGM program is there at Ferris. There’s also a fun 3 hole course that you can loop - it sort of makes a U around the range.

Prompted by Golfweeks’ top 20 public courses in each state, here are a few potentially feasible trips that could be setup to hit multiple of their options:

Northern Lower Peninsula Trip (4 Top 20’s):

  1. Belvedere (6)
  2. Boyne Resort (Bay Harbor Links Quarry (7)
  3. Boyne Resort (The Highlands (AH)(16)).
  4. Hidden River Golf (Brutus) (17)
  5. 4+ other courses on at Boyne for add on rounds

Upper Peninsula Trip (4 Top 20’s):

  1. Greywalls (Marquette) (2)
  2. Island Resort (Harris) (9)
  3. Sage Run (Bark River) (12)
  4. Pine Mountain Resort (Iron Mountain) (20)
  5. UP sightseeing, including pictured rocks

Southwest MI Trip (4 top 20’s):

  1. Harbor Shores (Benton Harbor) (12)
  2. Stoatin Brae (Kzoo) (9)
  3. Diamond Springs (SW GR) (19)
  4. American Dunes (Grand Haven) (14)
  5. Gull Lake Resort has several other courses and there’s an abundance of accessible quality golf in SW MI

I’d add Hawk’s Head to your SW MI list. Thinking I need to start planning that trip…

We did American dunes, ravines; hawks head, harbor shores for our trip three years ago and it was fantastic.

Island Resort has a golf package that includes many of those courses and it’s not very expensive. I was supposed to do it a few years ago but had a family emergency that forced me to turn around right as I got to the UP.

Cousin and I ended up going with

-The Loop June 21st
-Forest Dunes 21st
-The Loop June 22nd.

The “stick to a budget” got thrown out the window he’s a soon to be father, might be the last one for a hot minute, thought we’d go big.

If any Fresh Coast amigos want to get paired up with us I can slide you our time slots. would rather some nest heads than strangers.

All the Red Hawk talk makes me wish my wife and I hadn’t gotten uninvited from the trip to Tawas with her friend’s family the week of 4th of July
