What did you do to get uninvited?
The reason my wife and I were given is that the family is growing and there isn’t room for us. Now there is plenty of room for everyone going as the oldest son and his wife and their two kids decided not to come in from Buffalo and invited my wife, daughter and I to go visit them in Buffalo. Also the oldest daughter is going with us since my wife and her are best friends.
“I usually play the Livonia Muni courses…”, a man of the people. you’ll find me at Idyl Wyld for the first tee time of the day most weekends in the summer.
Has anyone here played The Cardinal at St John’s in Plymouth? Any thoughts on how it plays now?
I was trying to figure out when it opens for public play but I couldn’t find that on the website
Michigan is so awesome.
Sounds like it opens to the public at the end of this month, smooth $150 a round allegedly.
Fellow Michiganders, help me choose a course for a family vacation next month. Staying on the SE side of Grand Rapids with my wife’s side of the family and looking to get a single round in with my two brother in-laws. Thinking either Thornapple Pointe (5 minutes away from the airbnb) or the Mines. Both are courses I have not played and have interest in seeing. Bro in-laws don’t play a ton of golf so I don’t want them to get their teeth kicked in too bad if one of the suggested options is overly penal.
Have heard/read good things about TP but that’s about it, and the Mines is intriguing with being a Devries and obviously getting the NLU/TFE love so I feel like I know a bit more about the place without playing it yet. TIA
Just tried to book Island Resort for late August, great price on the package but unfortunately all of their weekends except 4th of July are booked up well into September. Said they have been taking reservations since last October and filled up fast for weekend times. Will know for next year to get in early.
Quail ridge.
I really like Thornapple and would recommend that if you’re in the area over a lot of other courses, especially if you’re 5 minutes away. Neither course is cheap, both can be difficult but for different reasons, for the Mines you will almost never have a flat lie in the fairway. Thornapple does have a couple of long-ish covers off of the tee but if you play the right tees it’s not too bad, there’s plenty of trouble to get into elsewhere. When we were there on Memorial Day the blues were almost all tipped out with the blacks which was an exciting surprise. I’m the odd man out and not the biggest fan of the Mines though so take my recommendation for what it’s worth.
TP or, if you want to see a devries and not have 5 holes of getting your teeth kicked, diamond springs from the whites
I have a buddies trip planned at the end of July at A Ga Ming. Our tee time on the second day is around 9 and we are thinking of adding another 9-18 in the afternoon. Any suggestions for a budget friendly but fun course to play in the area?
Not “budget friendly” per se, but it always seemed reasonable to me - if you can get on lochenheath I’d highly reccomend. Not sure how feasible that is, I havent played it since they went back to fully private.
Not sure if it’s worth the 35 minute drive into TC, but I played elmbrook a couple of years ago and it was very fun for what it is with good views. Looks like tee times are ~$70 right now.
Are you already playing Antrim Dells?
Yeah we are playing Sundance, Atrim Dells and Torch Lake.
There’s three courses at the Grand Traverse Resort, and there’s Elk Rapids Golf Club. And you wouldn’t have to go into T.C.
It’s a little bit of a hike, but I’d recommend the Charlevoix muni. It feels like a baby version of Belvedere. Buy the unlimited play and loop those nine holes till dark.
Might have to do this as we normally take out golf trip around this area.
Could always do Charlevoix CC a half hour away (which is technically part of A Ga Ming)
