Correct - you need a leisure pass to book online. Tee times release at 8pm 7 days prior.
Might do a few days in the Hamptons general area with the GF this summer. Are there any top tracks that are public youād suggest if I have a chance to play? Complication: Iād be a single.
North fork or south fork?
I played at Islandās End in Greenport (north fork) a few years back and really enjoyed it.
Thanks for the rec! We did the North Fork a few years ago and absolutely loved Greenport, so itās likely weād go back there.
I love north fork as well. Greenport rocks. Itās just so chill up there. Iām not into the glitz and glam of the south fork lol.
I get that completely. We had dinner in and drove through some of the South Fork, and it wasnāt for us. Nice, but not the vibe we were looking for.
Montauk Downs is top notch but itās at the tip of the island so depending on where youāre staying it still might be a bit of a trip.
Montauk Downs is great, tough, wind swept. Itās right on the edge of great. Islandās End is charming, fun, inviting, laid back, understated, but getting to North Fork from South Fork requires 2 ferriesā¦ and nice drive through Shelter Island. Shelter Island has āGoat Hillā, basically a throw back to playing in 1912, no irrigation, rustic, but great terrain and vibe.
9 holers, you have Puxabogue in Sagaponack, and Sag Harbor Golf Club. They are fun for carrying like 7 clubs, and not having too many expectations. Nothing on the public side is easy or convenient out here.
Some of the best courses in the US are out here, but might as well be on Mars for access. If you have any way to get on, I highly recommend Southampton Golf Club. Pure blend of great golf, golf focused club, soulful, not pretentious. Of course, if you can get on any of the others, do that too!
Indian Island in Riverhead is always worth a play if youāre in town. Casual round, great water views. As otherās have suggested, public access is limited on the South Fork. Islandās End is excellent, IMO. Golden-age vibes, great walking course. MTK Downs is a really solid course and a good test, but plan on a slow round/battling traffic to MTK if youāre not staying close by. The Vineyards in Riverhead (near the cherry creek courses) went fully private recently, but I bet you can call and get on as a single for a āprospective memberā round. Really fun spot. Rock Hill/Pine Hills are also pretty solid. For short courses, bring the gf to poxabogue and have lunch there! Sandy Ponds and The Cedars are also very fun par 3 spots. Enjoy!
You all are awesome. Thank you!
Just joined the nest and hoping into the refuge for the first time. Living out in Westchester and just popping in to introduce myself for the first time.
Welcome. Where in westchester are you? Iām in white plains and weāve got other guys in pleasantville, hastings, eastchester, yonkers and more.
Iām in Purchase. Grew up a Philly suburb guy and out here for a few years now. My wife is from the area.
Hey all ā just joined here, this place is awesome.
Located in White Plains and West Hampton for this summer, wondering if itās too late to get on in some of the events.
Good to see another one joining like me.
Same man! Any good recommendations for public courses in Westchester?
Iāll play Saxon or Mohansic on a weekday, not so bad. But weekends are a no-go due to pace of play.
Unfortunately I donāt really have any help here. Iāve played all over in the Philly suburbs but the whole time Iāve been here Iāve been married into the C-suite living like @soly and @Tron. I only really played at my home club. Definitely need to branch out and find some more but when we already pay dues itās hard to justify going elsewhere.
Nice. Weāve got a few other Philly transplants in the area. Weāve got a whatās app chat thatās more active and full playing opportunities all over.
@HibernatingBear can you post the welcome packet for these guys?
The White Plains contingent is growing. I also forgot to share our club website: RACDG NY Metro Chapter
You can join for access to local events and even a handicap index if you want one.
