Yep - so far so good. Fun course in good shape with some really cool greens but really relaxed environment.
Getting there from NYC is easy/quick, sometimes traffic coming back can be a bit of an issue but hasn’t been terrible.

Is the course walkable?
Yes, one of the main reason I liked it is you can walk anytime (as opposed to some places that require carts or caddie before noon).
There are a few big elevation changes that will get the legs burning but very walkable in terms of green to tee box transitions.
Pull Carts Allowed?
Snagged 630 AM twosome for Rock Spring on Saturday. Sunrise wasn’t until about 650, so we teed off by the light of the full moon (and couldn’t see anything).
Walked as a twosome, played in about 3.5 hours, both of us were struggling on the greens.
Sadly I had a calf cramp in the middle of my downswing on the 17th tee, snap hooked it into the road, lost my approach shot over the green into some bushes and went on to card a quintuple bogey 9. Ended up with a 92 to my friend’s 89.
Still, I love Rock Spring more than any metro NYC course I think.
Would love to see any pictures you have of Suburban, or any other thoughts. I have a friend who is considering it right now.
Thanks, looks great. Especially like the light in that last photo.
Oddly enough that was the day the west coast fire smog/smoke had made it to NYC area - very bizarre day out on the course.
Posting Rock Spring update here as well
Was is it about being first off the tee in the early morning that is you literally never want to be anywhere else?
It is truly a joy, and the only thing that has me jumping out of bed at 5AM. I do wish I was in the fairway instead of in the deep fairway bunker on the right off the first tee though.
I’m about 10 minutes from Suburban and always wondered what the vibe is like there. North Jersey private clubs have always felt hit or miss whenever I’ve been able to get on them.
Yeah hitting the fairway and green without having to search is certainly the preferred method when playing in low light.
For sure. We hit second tee shots just to hedge and no group was at the tee waiting yet…I found my first in the bunker after searching optimistically down the slope toward the green. The other felt good, but no idea where it ended up.
Both of my buddys balls were in the fairway…
Bumping this - event was postponed for rain yesterday - rain date is next Tuesday, 10/20.
We’ve had a few groups drop out, so if next Tuesday works better for anyone who was interested, let me know. Individuals or foursomes. So far we have 1 and 1/2 Refuge or refuge-adjacent foursomes.
Beautiful pic of 14. If someone would say the course let’s up at all it’s this hole but the changes they’ve made to this hole and the pin locations created make this just as tough as the other 17.
(Tip: when walking up to the green take a look across the street at 15 green to see pin location)
Just reserved a 3:50 on 10/20, walking the Black. Curious, odds I will be able to finish 18? Will more tee times open up, would really like to play earlier? Any tips?
Was dark at 6:30 today, I wouldn’t get your hopes up unfortunately. Fastest I’ve gotten around was 3:45 and we were cookin, and one of the early groups out. Check often 48 hours prior but I’m gonna day it’s highly unlikely. Sorry man wish I had a different view
