Roll Call - Metro NYC

I’m in NYC every few weeks for work, not sure about May yet. Can I be tentative for a few more weeks?

Of course… either put your name now or just wait. I’m not closing it until the end of March and that may even be a soft deadline

@mjf0282 if you want to keep the round on LI, consider Timber Point. It’s a scruffy 27 hole muni, but has Allison bones, possibly some Colt too. The Gibraltar Hole is worth it. It’s also probably 30 min from Bethpage.

Just popping in to give a quick shoutout to @brutalbaum @kent and @SeymourByrdees for a fun round at Hendrick’s on Saturday. Anytime you’re playing February golf in NJ it’s a win, but even better when you’re in good company. First time playing with Refugees, hopefully the first of many.

Thanks for all of the recs! Everything is dependent on when my buddy gets in. Love the look of Neshanic and the price point. An 18 with and extra 9 on top would pretty perfect. We would probably have to rope the wives into spending the day out at Montauk to make it more doable for a day trip.

When is the NLU meetup? I’d love to join.

May 17th (and we may make it a 2 day event now). See below for sign up

Is neshanic doable for the second (or technically first now) day?

In for the two day event. Planning on driving up Saturday morning.

I added a Y/N column to the google-doc seen here

Obviously would be dependent on the course, logistically, but hopefully if we get a decent showing for that Saturday as well we can add another 18-27-36 and make it a whole weekend thing

Link of the spreadsheet

Maybe we make a poll with 4 courses that would also be considered. Walkable, somewhat affordable, tee time blocks necessary.

Any idea on time for Saturday?

Bad answer but “it depends”

Potential to do either morning or afternoon. Depends on people coming and if this turns into a full scale event or not

Likely down for both days as of right now!

Just want to make sure we consider logistics for including a second course. Getting in/out of NYC to jersey for golf is do-able, but time consuming during a 36 hole weekend (just did it!).

@kent and I took NJ Transit Saturday AM to Bloomfield and got picked up by @brutalbaum for Hendricks. Ended up splitting a Lyft back to Penn Station as the next train wasn’t for 2 hours, and it came to $22 each, not too bad.

Thoughts: saturday course needs to be within reasonable uber distance to NYC, especially if there’s any intention of getting back to NYC saturday night for activities. Sunday AM to RockSpring via Uber OR NJ Transit to Orange/Highland from penn st. is probably the easiest way. But reminder, anyone from NYC would need a ride to/from the train station near RS. Just some additional cost for NYC dwellers.

Ideas like Hominy, Neshanic, some of the other mentioned are a pretty big hike for anyone actually living in NYC w/o a car. Getting back to NYC from there post-round, trying to maybe meet up for food/activities Saturday night in NYC, then getting back at it early sunday morning is a real labor.

So all that said, playing saturday as close to NYC as possible would be highly preferred. Or perhaps Dan’s pregnant wife would be totally cool having his internet friends/strangers come sleep over.

I have room for probably 6-8 tents in the back yard. Low man Saturday gets the guest bedroom.

I’m sure there will be enough of us with cars to be able to pick most/all of the commuters up.

@ThePowerFade is already working to get that Rory police escort

What’s with all the Ballyowen hate?

Also, a certain number of people may crash at my apartment at the cost of booze.

Just don’t be allergic to cats or judge its sparseness.

You could even sit on my sofa.

Hahahahaha @ThePowerFade care to explain?

Ha! I’ve never played if so can’t comment on the course myself. But it is not on @ThePowerFade 's list of favorite courses. More of a running joke on my part than any hate.
