Robert Moses pitch and putt?

Been a while since I checked on thread but @Zocco GCCC is a solid course. One of my closest friends is a member and I play it at least 2-3 times a year. It’s a challenging but playable course. I love the stretch from 3-8. 6 and 7 play around this massive dune. 1 and 16 play right along the LIRR tracks. The greens are CC fast and the membership is pretty laid back (for Garden City standards)

I currently live in Westchester but love all the LI talk on this thread, especially from @Junkman23 with the Ike pics . I grew up out there and my mom worked at Nassau County Medical Center behind Ike (I think it’s called something else now). In the summers She would drop me off at Ike before work and I would play until 330 pickup (no cell phones back then). Sad to see that the courses, especially the Red, are in terrible shape.

I see you guys talking about a Refuge gathering on LI but if any of you ever want to come up to Westchester and play Knollwood CC (easy commute from the city) I’d be happy to host you. It’s a Raynor/Banks design with a lot of history (Jones/Augusta connections and the famous Turnesa family… @anon846171 probably knows it all). Widely considered the best finishing hole in Westchester too.

Let me know, would absolutely love to meet fellow golf nuts. With 3 little kids it’s hard for me to make any of these other outings where travel is required

Love KCC, been playing it for years with a member friend. Looked into joining last summer, but applying to grad school for next year, so not the best use of funds at the moment. Hope someone takes you up on the offer. Very generous!

Played Black on Sunday 7/14. A friend and I took a gamble arriving at 5:45 as walk-ups and wouldn’t you know it, there was a 7:30 just waiting for us. Had plenty of time for a leisurely breakfast (omelet bar all the way). Fescue was cut down and the course was mint. Finished before 1 which was the quickest we’ve ever gotten around out there and broke 90 by a shot. That was a good day. I think the PGA-hype has already moved on.

I’m thinking of waiting until football season and going on a Sunday, hopefully it’ll be a little cooler and people will be too busy watching football. Is this going to improve my chances or is my logic fallacious?

Early fall is a great time to do it. I highly encourage it. Just plan for less daylight and more layers. Going midweek if you can increases odds greatly.

How was the fairway width? Last time I played it it was still pga width, wondering if that has changed. It’s such a difficult walk that I recommend going on a dry day, any moisture adds what feels like an extra mile

They cut it back to regular width. A little dewy when we teed off but dried out by the time we hit 5 where the course opens up more and the wind kicked up. Got lucky with the tee time and weather that day. Helped make it a memorable one.

Anyone play Eisenhower Red lately? Curious how the course is holding up with the recent heat and humidity.

Anyone making it to Liberty National this weekend for Northern Trust? I went to the Presidents’ Cup a few years back and it was pretty awesome. Haven’t looked into tickets at all.

Possibly.

Not sure if it was in this thread, but has anyone heard any news on the King-Collins project in New York? I’m guessing if it’s happening at all it would be upstate.

Can you explain the King-Collins project?

Shouldn’t have used the term ā€œproject.ā€ It’s not on their website and the only mention of it was somewhere in the refuge. I’ll see if I can find the comment.

He mentioned it in the talking golf getaways podcast I believe (I think it was that podcast st least)

After ignoring many No Laying Up ads on instagram, I saw a few people on golf reddit highly recommending the podcast. Listened to the George Gankas pod, binged the whole california tourist sauce thing last night, and…I am all in on NLU.

Grew up in Suffolk playing Timber Point and not realizing it was anything special. Bethpage Green was my home course if I had one. Now I’m a fully golf addicted adult and trying to deal with living in Manhattan and still get my fix. I am single so that helps, but I have no car so it can be tough.

So far this year I have played Silver Lake, La Tourette, Pelham Split Rock, Clearview, Middle Bay, Lido, Swan Lake, Bethpage black, red, blue and yellow, Dunwoodie, Saxon Woods, Hudson Hills, Rock Spring, Knoll West, Preakness Valley East, Spook Rock. Heading to Marine Park Saturday and possibly back to Bethpage red Sunday and hopefully skipping out on work tomorrow to snag a free golfnow hotdeal somewhere (maybe Mohansic).

Also, I recently created Bethpage Green in The Golf Club 2019…check it out if you like ā€œBethpage Green 18ā€

This seems like a great website/forum, so glad I finally found it.
