Roll Call: Maine

Great pic of 13. Always seems to play a club longer than it looks.

And someone please tell me about that wild concrete mound house behind 16 tee

Oh! I can lol.

It’s ugly AF. I reviewed an appraisal on it years ago. A funny story is that the property includes part of the hole and cart path - at one point years back the owners told the club they no longer were allowed to use the land.

It went so far at to have HW personally ask the owners to reconsider and allow the club to continue use.

But yeah - it’s horrendous.

Also it was built way more recently than you’d think- within the past 20 years. I always assumed it was like a 1970’s relic until I looked it up in the town assessment records (linked below for your snooping pleasure).

Don’t ask why, but I was clicking around on the Press Herald’s high school schedules. You wanna play some very private or very expensive golf courses for free, join a high school golf team. Some aren’t surprising: Cape Elizabeth plays at Purpoodock, Falmouth plays at the Woodlands, Cheverus at Portland CC. Mt. Abram playing at Sugarloaf surprised me. Might see a bunch of scores in the 60’s for nine holes in Class D golf. And Messalonskee playing at Belgrade! Good for them.

Also bonus points for Lawrence getting to play at Clinton. That’s a fun little course.

My condolences to Freeport having to play at the former Freeport CC/Maine Golf Center.

Good evening guis and gals of Maine!

Coming to your neck of the woods for a little one-week trip with the fiancée (lovely lady, does not golf)
Dates are monday Sept 30th to Sun Oct 6th.

We’re going mainly for hiking and cycling in Acadia National Park + Mount Washington on the way back (to Montreal-area).

We’re also making a stop in Portland for some touristing.

I’m currently putting in some work with said fiancée to barter me getting in a round at Cape Arundel when we’re in Portland (never played it but looks awesome!). Door’s slightly open but there is still work to be done there.

We’ve done preliminary research, but I’ll gladly welcome any to-eat/to-do/to-see recommendations I can get from you locals!

Thanks in advance!

If I’m successful, CA round would be on Saturday oct 5th! Would love to meet up with some of you folks if we can make that happen

How long are you staying in Portland? Oct is my favorite time of year to play CA, course is quiet.

Just a quick two days! Get there friday morning after driving down from Acadia/Bar Harbor, spend the rest of the day. We’ll have all of saturday there too (which is when I might golf, ideally AM). Then leave early sunday so that we can get to Mount Washington early to start our hike.

I find Portland to be a pretty walkable city so definitely suggest just exploring for a bit, especially in the Old Port. The golf course is about 25 miles south in Kennebunkport, but it’s an easy drive.

A lot of great food options so it’s tough to pick my favorites. I would suggest Luke’s Lobster or Highroller for lobster rolls (Eventide as well but moreso for oysters there). Also really like Lenora, Sichuan Kitchen and Honey Paw. Big time brewery scene as well; Allagash and Bissell Brothers are the classics but my personal favorite right now is Belleflower in the East End.

Second the recommendation for Honey Paw-wife and I went there earlier this year when we got shut out at Duckfat. We did also did Scales for dinner, which we loved.

Noted! Thanks guis, much appreciated :ok_hand:

With the 3 day booking window, what do you think the odds of getting a saturday AM tee-time at CA might be?

While we’re at it, any recs for Bar Harbor area? Thanks so much

Solid chance, CA is quiet in October. Not very tuned into Bar Harbor but will caution a lot of places are seasonal up there.

Not a Mainer, but took a very similar trip a couple of years ago. Played Kebo Valley in Bar Harbor and it ripped, If you can swing a second day.

You mentioned Mt Washington, which I feel required to recommend the golf course there, which regularly is in the top 5 courses in NH.
