Roll Call: L.A. County (Rustic Canyon and the Coachella Valley are not in L.A. County)

Pre-duel practice rounds are pretty scummy.

I’ll be there if I’m in-state.

You know what else is scummy?

Losing.

This duel is like watching mom and dad fight after they ran into each other with their respective paramours at Sidebar in Beverly Hills.

If any of you knuckleheads will be up north next month or feel like making the trip, would love to have you join!

Hi all,

Retired Aussie Golf pro coming to LA from the 24th to 28th of January and looking to have a couple of hits while I’m there. The dream would be LACC or Sherwood or Riviera obviously, but understand this is most unlikely unless someone here could make dreams come true

Looking to play lunchtime on the 24th and 27th and anytime 28th, am considering playing 36 on the 28th. Courses I’d be interested in playing just from reading online, Rustic Canyon, Moorpark, Industry Hills or Oak Quarry. Let me know if your interested…

Play Rustic twice before you play Moorpark.

Ok, so I never started, but now with the Boomerang registration submitted, it becomes a priority. lets do this

Cheers Matthew for the recommendation. What’s the issue with Moorpark?

Moorpark is fine but rustic is 10x the course.

Thanks @slasher

Agree on Rustic over Moorpark CC…Olivas Links is worth a look if you find yourself in the Ventura area…can be a slow round on the weekend, but in-week is smooth.

Thanks, I’ll check out Olivas

No clubhouse there (yet, supposedly building one at some point) so not much of a hang pre/post round, but the course is interesting, fair, and fun. Being close to the coast can be windy…also, really close to the Ventura harbor with some great restaurants/ happy hour 2 mins away.

Has anybody ever been to the Genesis Open before or planning to go this year? Looking at tickets for this year and wondering if it’s worth the extra money to get any of the hospitality tickets, clubhouse access, or just go with the standard grounds tickets. I’ve only been to the WMPO before so my understanding of what a real/typical golf tournament experience is like is a tad bit skewed.

I’ve been the past 2 years with clubhouse tickets through work, not sure if I’ll go again this year. I dont think it’s really worth it to pay extra for clubhouse because the non-premium hospitality areas on the course are pretty nice and food/drink lines weren’t too long. Plus, its a pretty big hike up the hill to get back to the clubhouse.

Basically there’s nothing in the clubhouse you can’t find easily out on the course except for pro shop merch, and you dont need a clubhouse ticket for that.

I’ve been the last four years and will be going again this year. I’ve never had anything other than the standard grounds tickets and have never felt like I was missing anything. It’s a great time every year (even if it’s raining, which it has 2 of the last 3 years).

I have been twice, once with clubhouse access and once not.

As bmr said, clubhouse access isn’t really worth the premium charged for it, especially since you are allowed in the pro shop even with a basic grounds ticket. I mean, it is cool to be able to go elsewhere in the clubhouse, it’s a very cool building with no small amount of history. But, ultimately, if you’re looking to get food or rest a little while, there are more convenient places on course.

Genesis is a revelation compared to the Phoenix Open. Parking in Santa Monica and getting the bus to Riv is somewhat of a pain so an Uber or Lyft is not a bad option, if you’re staying somewhere that makes it reasonable. Beyond that, it’s an amazing experience. It feels, in comparison to Phoenix, basically likes there’s no one there. Even when a Tiger/Rory/JT group comes by it feels mild in comparison. (NB, I’ve been on Thursdays; I’m sure they get more people out on Fridays and weekends.)

And the course is amazing. Such a pleasure to walk because it’s really easy to bounce around and see a lot of different holes and get really close to players and see a lot of unbelievable golf holes. I could spend all day just watching the 10th hole or all day at the 6th green. Also love the 5th hole, the 15th, the 2nd green, the 1st tee, the 12th and 13th, I mean, I could really go on all day. It’s a great, great, great course. I loved Riv from TV and was still completely unprepared for how much better it is in person.

Thanks @matthew823 @anon68983737 @nmccurley1

Looks like I’ll be getting the grounds pass for Saturday with my gf in case anyone else ends up making it that way. Excited to walk the course.
