Roll Call: L.A. County (Rustic Canyon and the Coachella Valley are not in L.A. County)

The LA Chapter won’t have fully done its job until we crowdsource and donate labor to fund and execute a complete redo of Penmar.

Within 5 years it should be The Nest by the Sea.

Very interested in doing this one, as I love soule. And would be an excuse to go play it again. Might start working on that this week.

Has anyone ever played at Braemar and think it’s worth the membership dues? Really want to play/improve a lot in 2020 and finding it difficult to work on my game having to hit off of mats everywhere in the area and having zero short game practice facilities.

Never played it. Not sure where you live but Woodley Lakes has a grass range.

I’m in Mar Vista right now, but will probably be moving at the end of February - was thinking more towards South Bay area but would be interested in going the other way towards Brentwood/Westwood area if Braemar is worth the cost to maximize membership use. Work is in Santa Monica and ideally I wouldn’t have a commute longer than 45min-1hr.

Do you know what the dues/initiation are?

Initiation Fee: $3,500

  • $1,500 with a 12 month commitment
  • $500 with a 24 month commitment.

Monthly Dues for Under 40: $435

It’s a part of the ClubCorp family. Would get access to all of the facilities and discounts on food and bev for myself and my girlfriend.

Oh wow, that’s much lower than i was expecting. Might have to look into that a bit more.

An extra $75/month on top of that puts you in their “ONE” plan that I think gets you free golf at any or most of the other ClubCorp courses. In SoCal there’s Aliso Viejo, Coto de Caza, and one or two others.

Does anyone else want to “work from home” tomorrow and meet at the Porcha Gallery in Ojai say around, 11am and maybe drive down the road to Soule Park and tee off at 1130?

Anyone have any recommendations for someone who visits 4-5 times a year for work and stays in either El Segundo or Pasadena? Probably coming back out in January. Rustic is on the list, but maybe something a little more east?

Rio Hondo, Pacific Palms…it’s bleak, man.

Yeah my Google research didn’t turn up much. I got the Pasatiempo round in the Stella auction, gonna jump up North on a work trip in the spring, would like to add another round since I’m hauling the clubs out, looks like Rustic will be it.

Is Brookside any good? I played there once years ago and don’t really remember it. I’ve been there many times since, but it’s hard to sort out the course when there are 30,000 cars parked on it.

It’s posts like these that really make me wonder what the hell I am doing with my life.

No, Brookside sucks. We tell ourselves it’s ok, but it sucks.

@ohnolan, if in El Segundo (where I office) you may want to consider the Long Beach courses. Skylinks is fine and El Dorado is OK.

Grew up within 10 minutes of both of those courses and played them for several years, as well as Rec Park. El Dorado hosts the Long Beach Open every year, an independent pro tournament once won by NLU legend Paul Goydos (as well as Kevin Na and the anchorman himself, Scott McCarron). Also the site of my then-lowest round as a member of the high school golf team after the lens popped out of my glasses while standing over a putt on the 4th green. Memories.

Have played many rounds at Big Rec, Skylinks and Eldo. Looking forward to the LB Golf Festival next summer!
