Right on. That’s all good. Glad to hear you’re interested… Are you cool to send me your email in a private message? I’ll try and get you connected that way. (the story is kinda interesting too, I bet it will help you convince your wife!)
Hey Guys,
Not sure if this is the right place to put this, so please delete if not allowed.
I’m Andy, 33 from the UK ( Near Liverpool) and I’m coming to the Santa Barbara area between the 17th-24th July to visit some friends. Just wondering if there is anyone in the area that would fancy a round or two? Could show me some new courses etc?
Many Thanks
Andy
Hi Andy
Sorry no one’s replied yet, been a bit quiet around here lately.
Keep in mind, Santa Barbara is a solid two hours up the road from LA, so not many from here would go that far to play. If you’re open to a drive, I’d bet you can get some people to meet you halfway at Rustic Canyon–probably an hour (at least) from downtown SB.
Cheers
Hey all, have some tickets for the US Open this upcoming weekend at LACC.
Cross posting here with my TSR post. Let me know if you’re interested, selling for Sat/Sun (2 tickets each day).

Heading to LACC for Tuesday’s practice round and I have an extra ticket to give away, free or maybe for a beer on property. DM and it’s yours!

Hello, you crazy liberals. I will be gracing the area of Pasadena later this month. I already have tee times at Rustic and Soule but I am struggling to find anything online that looks decent for a public course in Pasadena. Willing to drive 90 minutes south of Pasadena as I will be catching a red eye out of LAX that evening. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Brookside (#1) or Santa Anita are both good options.
brookside weekends are some of the longest rounds out there. I would probably try Santa Anita first
Los Verdes is awesome, crazy hard tee time to get but worth the drive from Pasadena if you’re going to LAX after. Much closer to Pasadena, Wilson in Griffith park is a top notch muni and a few of the original Thomas holes still remain. Harding is good too.
Re: Brookside - #1 is the ‘championship’ layout and slow as hell on weekends (as is Santa Anita). #2 is a little quirkier / more fun IMO and usually moves better. A lot of straight holes but cool green complexes and you’re still next to the rose bowl.
90 miles south of pasadena gives you a big range. if time allows Oak Quary, about 50 miles east but worth it. leaves you about 70 miles back to lax. other good ones I like Strawberry farms in Irvine, or the two industry hills tracks, likely that all these wont book till a week before.
Played Oak Quarry earlier this year when I was in San Diego. Fucking loved it.
Strawberry Farms looks cool but the tee times won’t work with my current schedule. Might do Industry Hills. Thanks for the recommendations!
Hello LA County Nesters - In LAX area for work and finished early today. I have my sticks and looking to fill a foursome. Anyone setup for an afternoon round?
Whats up everyone? Northern VA local here taking a trip out to the LA area for my birthday in October. Would love to hear any recommendations for courses to play. We will be staying in Malibu if that makes any difference on recs.
Also, is it worth it to fly with my set or are rental sets pretty decent at these courses?
TIA for your help!
will you have access to a car? if so, you won’t have terrible access to the courses in the southern part of ventura county–rustic, los robles, moorpark CC, or tierra rejada. those would be my picks in order. malibu is kind of a pain to get in and out of, so you’re pretty much driving 30-40 minutes regardless.
i couldn’t speak to the rental clubs unfortunately, though i wouldn’t imagine they are too bad at any of those.
Just returned from a trip to California.
Really liked Soule Park in Ojai. With no traffic from Malibu, it’s about 75 minutes. However, the last 25 minutes of the drive you will see little roadside fruit stands and orange groves. Being in the Midwest, it was something different to experience.
Rustic Canyon was solid. It’s about 40 minutes from Malibu with no traffic.
If you are a member at a club, 1) have your pro call a country club to see if you can get on, 2) Or you could try thousand greens.
wow, you ended up going in the complete opposite direction from industry hills, huh?
Yes, we’ll have a rental car so driving won’t be a problem! I’ll probably just end up flying with my clubs and not have to take a chance on what the rental sets are like.
Thanks for your help! I’ll start looking into these courses
Rustic Canyon is becoming a common theme…sounds like a must play!
Did you rent clubs or bring yours out for the trip? Also, yes, I am a member at a club here locally.
If my course is able to get me reciprocity, what private courses would you recommend I try to get on at?
Hey, not sure how I missed your reply.
I brought my clubs as it was a direct flight and I am a lefty.
As far as private clubs, I would go through thousand greens and see what is available. Or just ask your pro if he/she has connections in the LA area. Public courses seem to be very busy in LA and I have seen lots of complaints of 5 to 6 hour rounds.
Hey y’all. Longtime listener/follower, first time joiner. Throwing a shoutout here in the hopes of finding my way around the message boards and getting on course. Live in Malibu. Play anything within an hourish of here a lot (LA City courses, Rustic, MPCC, Olivas, Soule, Los Robles, River Ridge, etc.) Looking forward to getting involved.
