Pace has been slow on the weekends. Unless you are first off expect 4:30 before 7:30 and 5 hours after 8.
Itâs funny she said that. We were a twosome at North Berwick and four grannies teed off in front of us. Immediately we rolled our eyes but we never saw them. We finished in 3:30 and they were way ahead of us. Itâs a difference in golf culture.
Still no marshal I assume then?
Do you really think marshals are the key to stopping slow play? I have literally NEVER come across a marshal that added value.
I would agree they are not always useful. I have met a few though that donât fuck around.
Welcome to the Refuge! Are you based in LA?
Unless they started this weekend I havenât seen one. Fingers crossed
Thanks TacoBucket. Yes, looking forward to playing with some refugees.
since the lights are finally back on in these parts past 6pm (s/o daylight savings) - would there be interest in somewhat regular friday afternoon meetups/games?
New to the Refuge. I have been playing for just over a year, live on the Westside and mostly play Penmar, Westchester, the Rancho 3-par (mostly with my 8-year old) and the Lakes in El Segundo. For were I am with my game, these are fun and affordable courses and let me work on my game with no real pressure. When I get the opportunity to play a course with better maintenance and challenges, it has been a thrill, but that has mostly been limited to trips to the Palm Springs and Vegas.
For my birthday next month I want to play one of the quality courses around Los Angeles. Looking for suggestions, want to keep the drive around an hour, the price under $60 and if we can walk, we would prefer it. Other than Rustic, any suggestions?
Soule Park was awesome in Ojai
I really like Simi Hills. It wonât knock your socks off but itâs a fun track and always in good shape. Wonât beat you or your wallet up too much. Also very walkable.
I like Soule, Ojai (some deals), Olivas, Santa Anita (quirky but I like it). Rustic is the best but you already mentioned it.
Indeed
Rustic is great but I would second Soule as more fun and way more to do off the course in Ojai than Moorpark.
Great point on the after round festivities. I liked the golf at Rustic better for golf but the off course is 100% better in Ojai.
We hit up Ojai Beverage Company for a beer and lunch. Good food and beer there then stopped for another at Topa Topa Brewing Company. I would recommend both spots.
Maybe consider the Terranea par 3 course?
Itâs within your price range and driving restrictions, challenging and in excellent condition, and totally memorable because itâs as pretty as a golf course comes. But itâs also still a par 3 course so itâs a lovely walk and within the skill ability of any golfer (though obviously a big step up in challenge from a par 3 course like Rancho).
@The_Cad_Says in the wild at Wilshire.
Had him pegged as a Bel-Air or LACC gui. Surprised heâd agree to Wilshire.
Those pants sure are green
