Roll Call: L.A. County (Rustic Canyon and the Coachella Valley are not in L.A. County)

I’ve seen James Jordan a couple times. Helped my game a ton. Works out of Woodley Lakes which has a grass range. His rate varies but he is a good guy and will work with you. https://www.instagram.com/p/B71is-AgHx6/?igshid=1xfwd2h0hqqye

Do you consider Los Verdes in the LB area? If so, where do you rank it? (Disclosure, I quite like it, although I’ve only played it a couple times.)

@bilspacecadet, I like it a lot. It’s just such a tough tee time and seems like you need to bribe to get on the tee sheet.

Definitely easier to get to Palos Verdes area from LB than from most of LA.

I liked the back nine at Los Verdes quite a bit.

I guess that’s the big plus to being self-employed/unemployed. Can go play during the week. I didn’t have too much trouble getting a tee time there, but it was probably a Wednesday or something…

That’s why I keep my handicap with the South Bay Public Links club. They have very low dues and they schedule events at Los Verdes every 2-3 months.

Anyone playing this afternoon in the Long Beach area?

I’ve taken lessons from Gary Riewer at Golf Development Center in Moorepark. It’s absolutely less than $200/hour. Found it VERY helpful. Link to his website is here: https://gdrgolf.com/

General lessons question to the group, since we’re on the topic. At what point do you feel like paying for the fancy lessons makes a difference?

I took up the game only about four or five years ago, and while I love it, I’m still working to be a basic bogey golfer (currently a 19).

Would a premium instructor make more/faster improvements than the basic guys? Would a evolvr.com or georgegankas.com be useful? Or do you need to be at a certain level first before that type of instruction is worth the money?

If the question is “should I take a few lessons?” the answer is YES!
If the quotation is “should I spend $200/hr (or more) on lessons?” my answer is No. I can recommend a guy that I payed $80/hr for. I’m sure there are others on here that can recommend guys in the $100/hr range.
I’d also suggest that you book a few lessons spaced about a month or so apart. Going back to back weeks only helps if you have time to work on the learning from the previous week a bunch.

Just my opinion though.
Cheers!

Guis

Looks like I’ll be in LA in March. Flying into town, staying with a friend in the valley for a couple of days, then heading down to San Diego for a day, crossing over to Palm Desert, then back through LA for another couple of days before driving up to Monterrey.

I haven’t booked flights yet but I was thinking we’d see who’s about and I’ll book a flight around a Rustic Canyon day…?

Wife has a work trip to Santa Barbara Feb 12th & 13th, which means I have the option to come along and play some golf!

A. Anyone in/near the area and want to play either day (I’ll have a car)
B. Any suggestions on where to play in the SB adjacent area?

Santa Anita when I’m near Pasadena

Sandpiper is the popular pick (shoutout Tourist Sauce) and should be around $125 during the week. Views are amazing, course is solid, conditioning is hit or miss. First time i played it was great, 2nd time it was a mess with GUR in front of every green.

Yeah rewatching that ep right now. Sandpiper seemed to be the consensus, and it’s really close.

If you don’t mind driving 45 mins from SB hit up Soule Park.

I’m always down for a Rustic round. Just holler on a date.

I’m def willing to drive the hour from SB to Rustic. Ok so I have 2 days, 3 courses (Sandpiper, Rustic, and Soule) to choose from.
