Roll Call: Kentucky

Kearney is a fun Dye course, not 100% on the rental situation. If you are closer to Louisville chariot run is a great course always in good shape.

LPCP is right. Chariot Run is great, as is Belterra. Both are an hour from Louisville. Champions Pointe is another good Southern Indiana option as is Heritage Hill (just outside Louisville).

Audobon is a great course to play but have only been as a guest so canā€™t speak to current membership. One of the best country club courses in the city.

I am a member at Midland Trail. Membership close to $1K per year. $10 to walk 18 and a lot of young members. Always jumping in random games and meeting new people. One downside is it sits low in a valley and holds water. I use chariot run, Nevel Meade as backups for when it is wet.

I will say that it is tough to commit to a CC in Louisville because of all the great public and semi private options. I ended up joining a private course because I work 80 hours per week and can usually only fit in 7-9 holes at a time. Hard to do that efficiently at Seneca when walking 9 can take over 2.5 hours.

@nicke93 - I was a member at Midland Trail for four years before switching to Woodhaven Country Club this past year. Still love Midland Trail and play there a lot with my dad. If youā€™re looking for good Junior Membership, assuming youā€™re younger than 32, Woodhaven has been great. No minimums. My fiancee and I pay $110 a month and walk for free every round. Food, cabana bar, pool etc. is a blast. Itā€™s a good party scene.

The golf course itself is short but challenging with small firm greens. There are menā€™s league events every week. Cannot recommend it enough. Also with the price point, I feel that I can still get out and play other courses because Iā€™m not paying a ton of money to be a member there.

Audubon is a blast or at least it was 2-3 years ago assuming most of the younger members stayed. The course is fun too! The downside is their practice areaā€¦

Not from KY, but am taking weekend trip to Louisville in late March with some buddies. Weā€™d like to play within 30 minutes of the city, under $70/round. Any recommendations?

Iā€™m seeing some commentary on Nevel Meade and it looks like a nice spot. Any chance we could get on U of L, or would I need to know a member?

Lastly, weā€™ll be there for the Sweet 16/Elite 8 weekend, so any good spots to watch the games?

Appreciate the help!

Chariot Run always in great shape and great value.

Iā€™ll second Chariot Run, bit a haul from Louisville but itā€™s good. Nevel Meade would be my ā€œin townā€ choice.

Iā€™m from Louisville and still live here. I personally donā€™t think we have any great sports bar in town. Drakes is whatever, just depends on what you guys are looking for? Bourbon bars: Taj (has TVā€™s) Silver Dollar (no TVā€™s). Double Dogs out in Middletown has a ton of TVā€™s but the food is decent at best. Bearnoā€™s evidently has a newish sports bar on hurstbourne havenā€™t been but do like their pizza. Gravely is my favorite brewery but no TVā€™s that i can recallā€¦ ha

Enjoy, go cats!

Hello friends *in my best Jim Nantz voice

Ashland here, mainly play public golf in the Tri State (Ky, OH, Wva) area but travel downstate a decent amount and meet up with friends in Lex and Lou.

UofL Club you would have to know a member. Personally I think Chariots AND Nevel Meade are near the same level at UofL Club. Canā€™t go wrong with either - just depends how far you want to drive.

If youā€™re here to and want to watch the tourney - could go up and play Chariots and then go to Horseshoe Casino to watch the games. Chariot used to be owned by the casino and is only about 20 mins away. They just renovated the entire casino and added the sportsbook. It is very dope.

Thanks everybody, appreciate the guidance. Iā€™m going to go with Nevelā€™s and Chariots for the weekend - they both look to be in great shape and will be a fun test for the first round of the year. A stop at the casino after Chariots looks likelyā€¦

One last question: Is there a certain area of downtown Louisville I should be looking to stay? Ideally we would be walk-able (or a short drive) from the action during March Madness.

Thanks again. If any of you are looking at a Northern MI trip in the future, let me know and I can return the favor. Crack on!

Iā€™ve stayed at the Galt House last several times downtown. No complaints, nice hotel bar too that gets lots of action.

Heritage Hill is another option. Itā€™s probably 20(?) minutes from downtown. A couple really cool holes, good conditioning.

Assuming you realize Louisville is not an NCAA tournament site city this year, and by ā€œclose to the actionā€ you just mean sports bars / restaurants.

Depending on your price point, the Omni just opened a few years ago downtown and is super nice. However, it isnā€™t very close to anywhere that would be fun to watch the games. Fourth Street Live gets the most pub but the food and entertainment is just okay.

Personally I think the best hub of bars/restaurants in the city is in a neighborhood called The Highlands with most of the bars being on bardstown rd - more local joints. Osheaā€™s, Molly Maloneā€™s, Baxters. Theres tons of local flavor on that stretch of street as well. Give it a look.

Area of Saint Matthews has a block of good bar food also - Saints, Tin Roof, Drakes.

hope this helps.

Iā€™ll echo this. Bardstown 1000% over Fourth Street

Louisville here. Most hotels are downtown or towards the burbs. UofL not a host site, downtown will be fair. Find an ABnB in the Highlands. Bardstown Rd/Baxter corridor has all the bars you could ever want. Or just stay downtown and uber. Downtown hotel, Galt House or Courtyard by Marriott Louisville Downtown 100 S 2nd St, Louisville, KY 40202 are decent choices.

hotels: Omni on the high end, Distil would be my pick. brand new (newer than the Omni) bardstown rd is alright. i still think downtown is better than bardstown road aside from 4th street that is such an abomination on the city

I always forget about the stretch of bars near Yum Center. Bearnoā€™s (good pizza), Oā€™Sheas, Troll Pub, etc. All are good places. Canā€™t stress this enough: DONT GO TO FOURTH STREET LIVE.

Iā€™ve lived in Louisville for 5 years and have only been to 4th Street twice (forced to go for work functions).
I would throw in NuLu for area consideration. A great option right in between downtown and Bardstown Rd (Highlands). Plenty of great restaurants and the best breweries in town (Mile Wide, Gravely, West Sixth soon).

Donā€™t sleep on Doc Crows. Solid food and beverage menus. :ok_hand:t2: Didnā€™t have a ā€œcommercializedā€ feel last time we were there, even though it is right in the heart of downtown.
