Can’t speak to current conditties. Trip is right around the corner, yes?
3rd week of July.
I remember when this was the old Player’s Club in Henderson. Took my first ever golf lessons there.
Really good to hear people are playing out there again.
Yeah, the only complaint I’ve had playing out there is that they may have the slowest golf carts I have ever seen now. It’s such a random complaint, but that’s it honestly! They’ve put a lot of good work into it!
Anybody the TPC of Owensboro or the Pearl Club?
I got a tee time there on Saturday. Looks like its the old Summit Club.
You are correct. They renamed it to The Pearl Club from The Summit a little while back. I played it last fall and it was in great shape!
I always overlook how much golf I play in Kentucky. My work league is at Kenton County courses (RIP Fox Run) and I played AJ Jolly over the weekend. Forgot how much fun that course is, need to make sure I get back at least once per year. What courses do you guys consider must-plays in Northern Kentucky/within an hour or so of Cincinnati?
How’d everything go? What courses did you end up playing?
Ack.
I had to bail at the 11th hour because of a family emergency, my friends who went on the trip I planned had a blast.
The NC contingent played Mimosa Hills going out.
In this order: Boone’s Trace (tough, but loved it, best bar of the week); UK Wildcat (thought it was fine); Houston Oaks (liked it a lot, thought staff were jerks), UK Big Blue (2nd time playing, really enjoyed it again). Also hit up 4 Roses, went to a great bourbon tasting downtown, and generally had a blast. Went back to Blue Door Smokehouse for BBQ (it is a relatively new place, I think) and liked it just as much as last year.
Hate you had to miss out, hope everything’s OK. Glad your crew had a good time!
I really like Lassing Pointe. Just quit my target golf, house lined, unwalkable CC and I love having this. If they redo the bunkers it would be realllly good
Lassing Pointe is on my list, looking for a good day to make it down there. Might try to make it happen in the winter.
they used to have 8 oz. Mich Ultras for a dollar, almost died down there a couple times.
Tom Coyne (ACCA spoiler) said on the Large Randall TrapDraw podcast that Kentucky kept messing up his routing. He played Heritage Hill, gave it 2.5 Burgerdogs and peaced out with no explanation in the book. My dad is turning 70 this year so I’ve been perusing this thread to plot a Course Called Commonwealth. Feel free to #iterate below and #disrupt. We’ve only played Kearney, Cherry Blossom and Lassing.
Tier 1 - Best in the region

Sticking with only public? Use the platform to get on some CCs as well! Not unlike Coyne. (Valhalla obviously) if you get up to northern ky. Triple crown, Traditions
Main focus is on public for anyone to play. Did Traditions start building houses? Haven’t been there in ten years. Had a real wow moment seeing the green on number 3 for the first time. 7 and 14 are great holes too.
It’s crazy to me how good public golf is in and around Lexington compared to Louisville. Louisville public golf is really those 2 courses and that’s it.
Edit to also say neither of those courses are even in Louisville.
Great list - a few to consider. If you are going to do covered bridge, you may also consider champions pointe. I play both, champions is more open, I really like them both.
Eastern KY, Stone Crest in Prestonsburg to me is a must visit. Fairly remote, a reclaimed coal mine, I recall it being in awesome shape and a super good BBQ place not too far away.
Central KY I’d add Burnside State Park, same designer as dale hollow. I had a ton of fun there last year.
In louisville, Shawnee is nice - it is incredibly flat, great walk, lots of infrastructure major strapped boy vibes.
Grayson Lake Golf Course is a good course to consider as well.
Cross posting this in the bourbon thread as well but I’m headed to Louisville tomorrow on a quick work trip. Looking for recommendations on places to eat and drink while I’m in town? Also any must see stops that should be part of a 48 hour trip
