I lived right by the the Yaya. I gave that whole corner a lot of business being worse for the wear. The Sonic being open 24 hours did me no favors either.
B&T along with Dads were the pinnacle of Lexington food for me when I was in school a few years ago.
Anyone on here a member at Audobon CC? Kid I caddy for qualified for the State Am in a few weeks and is playing well right now and I think has a legit shot to be a contender. I have played the course a few times but it’s been about 4 years since I’ve been back. Trying to just get out and walk the course, take some notes between now and then.
Shoot me a text tomorrow. My buddy Seth’s girlfriend is a member (or her family is) and he might be able to get you out there to walk it or we can go play it (maybe).
I’m a member. They are getting it DIALED for the State Am.
I am sure we can get something arranged. Member/Member is this weekend, but I would be happy to have you and @ChuckV247 out one day next week if you’re hoping to play.
Just joined up - live in Louisville spend a solid amount of time in Lexington. Many years ago was a bag boy at Idle Hour and former caddy turned shop guy at Louisville CC for years. Always looking for a game. Wanting to get out in the state a bit if anyone has rec’s I’ve played a few eastern KY and central, never any west?
In terms of western Kentucky, I really enjoy The Bridges in Henderson, haven’t been out there yet this year, but they were getting it back in pretty good shape last year.
That looks solid - I had entertained the idea of a Kentucky golf trip that would hit East, Central and West, I took one brief trip east and played Eagle’s Ridge at Yatesville State Park which (years ago) was in mediocre mid summer shape, but the landscape was incomprehensibly fantastic, crazy elevation changes, a really spectacular and tough course. Stonecrest in Prestonsburg a reclaimed mine site was fantastic. This past summer I played Burnside State Park a bunch, really enjoyed it, great shape nice layout. I hear about Dale Hollow being fantastic all the time, haven’t made it down there yet though.
I can’t attest to Dale Hollow in terms of golf, but that’s where my fraternity went for formal back in college and it’s a great time in terms of going out on a boat. Tons of coves that you can go out in and drop an anchor and plenty of opening water too.
You should come play Rolling Hills this summer in Russellville
I may or may not have a meeting there in the next few weeks and I did plan to play that course.
I’m on my grandparents membership out there. Perks of still being in college… LMK when and I’ll come play.
Looks great, public right? I travel to Nashville a fair amount for work, could probably swing west on one of those trips.
it is public and i’ll extend the same offer of let me know a day and i’ll try to get out there and join you. it’s only about 20 minutes off of 65.
Dale Hollow is a top 10 course in the state but a little rough around the edges. would still highly recommend playing
What do y’all know about Houston Oaks in Paris?
Played it quite a bit in grad school and remember enjoying it. That was back in 2003-2005 for reference.
Hey locals: can anyone speak to conditions at Gary Brewer this summer?
I think you’re talking about Gay Brewer Jr.? No snark. There might be a course in Kentucky named Gary Brewer for all I know. Also, it’s tough because most folks call it Picadome.
I was there yesterday to check it out before today’s Men’s City Championship. It was in rough shape last year but it’s significantly better now. It’s bermuda, but I think Lexington is a little too far north for bermuda because it’s just so spotty until summer. If you’re used to muni golf conditions, it’s average. Maybe slightly better than average. If you’ve never played it, let me know what you think because it’s a quirky track.
We’re pretty used fo Muni conditions and thought it might be a fun warm up round on day one of a trip to town.
