Played Minor Park yesterday and for $28 it was as advertised. Had never played there before and was an easy walk with some target holes which had some fun to it. Nothing crazy, but nice just to get out and be on a course for the first time since all this happened.
Shoutout to @anon82308049 for sending me the link into here. Born and Raised in Omaha, family belonged to Champions Run up there and now live in KC with my wife being from here. Have played Swope every weekend for the past month with some buddies and have dabbled in some Deer Creek/OP 9 hole post work rounds and a few up north at Tiffany/Shoal/Hodge Park…but from my viewpoint. Country clubs are super nice here but the 10k joining fee is crazy high for a newly married couple in their 20’s and the public courses are either overpriced (besides Swope) or just not maintained/ruined by Great Life KC. Paid $20 to play at Painted Hills a few weeks back and requested money back from Supreme Golf because it’s a shame they even call that place a golf course it was in the worst shape I’ve ever seen any course in my life and had 3 different groups of 2+ ppl have the same 5:15 tee time as me. Any public course suggestions or great tracks I’ve yet to discovered would be greatly appreciated and I’d love to get a NLU meet up round once this stay-at-home stuff clears. Glad to be here in the KC Roll Call!
I looked at a few south JoCo clubs recently and none wanted 10k at the <35 age bracket. The highest was $5k, I think. Not sure where you’re located in the metro, but I imagine only a couple spots in the city would ask for something that high.
I sent an email to the main clubs around town and outside of the Deuce having a great under 35 deal of $1500 for single $2000 for couples. The rest were in the 10k range for just entry fees to their club
Not sure where you live, but come down to Creekmoor! I love it down here course is always in good shape and some the fastest greens in town when they want them to be. Not really walk-able if that is what you are looking for.
@PSchmitt9 yo and welcome! I jumped on the Deuce membership earlier this year and it’s been great. If you’re up north, it’s a great option. Feel free to shoot me any questions. @KC_Badger also might be able to help.
We really enjoy Brookridge. Great clubhouse, food and the fitness center is really nice
I saw that and couldn’t tell if it was like a Great Life deal or by itself, the prices for monthly fees aren’t bad but are they year-round or just during golf months? Also is there an entry fee to join the club? It looks great online in photos and videos I’ve seen
No…def not Great Life. Nice course. It’s a year round membership with price breaks under 40. We have two kids so the executive course across the street has been a great bonus as well. Not sure if entry fee right now, but I’d be happy to refer you over there to get best deal
I’ll look into it and shoot you a DM on here, really appreciate it Kurt!
Has Brookridge hinted as to how much longer they plan to operate?
(posting this under the assumption that JoCo has signed off on the re-development plans that have been in the works for the last few years)
Really depends who you talk to. Most members say it’s going to be years before anything actually happens. They have a master plan that will keep the back 9 as is and turn the front and west 9 into just 9 holes and then the mixed use ‘centers.’ If anything happens sooner, oh well, we’ll just deal with it and figure out what we want to do. For now, the range, pool, clubhouse and fitness would probably keep us there even if just 9 holes are open.
Hillcrest just increased their (pandemic) walking rate from $50 to $65 across the board. It was already quite steep at $50, all things considered, but $65 is hard to justify.
I totally get that courses are hurting right now with no pro shop or F&B revenue, but I’m really struggling with some of the price gouging going on. The obvious solution is to simply not support it, but that’s sometimes easier said than done. I think Swope is handling it really well, but it’s crazy busy as a result. It’s getting increasingly difficult to grab a tee time at a decent rate around here if you’re not booking days in advance.
How’s everyone else fairing?
That’s absurd.
I played Sykes lady on Tuesday for $22 and it was in good shape despite the rain showers. Greens were almost healed from punching. Dubs dread is a reasonable rate too.
$28 to walk at Minor Park on Sat/Sun. Was busy but not crazy this last week. You get what you pay for. Easy walk, but greens are furry for sure.
Does Sykes/Lady still only have 9 holes open for play, though? And you’re right – I walked Dubs at the beginning of the month for just under $30, but it was a weekday morning and I was solo. Really enjoy that course.
No, they have all 3 9s open I believe. We played north and south.
I wonder if Hillcrest is deliberately pushing people away to make room for high demand from GL members?
Is Sykes/Lady still a mud pit? If I had the time, I would for sure drive out to Dubs before Sykes/Lady. It’s been many years since I was there, but I kinda like it.
I walked Swope last Saturday 9 for 22 I believe after 2pm. It seemed packed a lot of 5somes and full groups but pace moved pretty well I thought. Sycamore bumped up their rates this year as well though. I walked the backside for 24 Sunday afternoon. But I think their peak weekend riding 18 is over 60. BUt I’ve been mostly playing Heritage and I fully think they have no idea what they are charging. Its always a random different price but always reasonable. I’ve been charged 20 to walk 9 out there and 25 to ride 18… I think its just whoever answers the phone.
