or turned into housing. my neighbor that was investigating deer creek said GL plans to sell to residential developers now.
Anybody played the Outlaw and posse courses up at Paradise Pointe in Smithville?
I played the Posse two summers ago and don’t remember it being too up and down, just curious if the courses are walkable.
Yes, both walkable. Outlaw is an out and back with no turn house though so make sure you have everything you need for the round. I find the Posse to be the more interesting course but the Outlaw is the stronger test of golf. Hit me up, I’d like to get back up there sometime.
Booked it for tomorrow actually. I don’t remember much about Posse. Was hoping Outlaw would be more ‘memorable’
Dude that place is nice. Conditioning in parts of some fairways and the tees could use some work but I really enjoyed it. Got beat up by the wind but it was a good walk, and reminded me of a poor man’s Firekeeper for about all of three or four holes.
Greens were rolling and in decent shape. 16 or 17 (the last par 5) is kinda stupid with that tree front right 50 yards to the hole. Par 3 10th that juts out into the lake is kinda meh, but overall I really enjoyed it.
Three triples and a three-putt-par saw me card an 89 which I’m not ashamed of in that wind, blowing out to the lake, 11, 13 & 15 were brutal.
Any time you wanna go back out there I’m game just need an hour’s fucking notice to drive up there.
Has anyone else played hidden valley down in Southwest Mo? I feel like it could really be something with a few tweaks. I love it right now but man could it be special. Right in a valley on the James River, truly special.
Yeah those trees used to be way way cut back and you could really take a rip at the green. It’s an absolute blast and the conditioning is almost always great. Some kind of throw away holes but I’ve always thought it would be a really fun place to own.
Does anyone know anything about the 6 hole short course in the park adjacent to Sunflower? Is it a First Tee facility? I saw on their site that they run their junior program out of there but was trying to figure out if I can take my kid there to play it.
I’ve been far too busy to stay in the loop of all things happening but are these still available?
Plenty available. If yer not coming to Dub’s on Saturday, feel free to DM me yer physical mailing address, and yer Venmo handle and I’ll get them out to you this week, possibly tomorrow morning!
Act now and it too can be yours!!!
Looking for some help. I’m playing in a Two-Person Event at Prairie Dunes. I was wondering if a member could host a practice round for my partner and myself. Please DM me for details if that’s a possibility. Thank you.
Bumping these again as it is starting to get nice out. They can be yours free of charge in the KC area.
These have been spoken for!
Played my first of the “Big 3” Mission Hills courses yesterday, Indian Hills CC.
Was invited to a foursome by a member and enjoyed the beautiful day. Clubhouse was really nice, people all really friendly, course had been aerated recently but was rolling well.
Actual course didn’t do much for me until the back 9, but on the bright side, theres not a lot of places to lose a ball so theres that. Overall, greens more interesting/dynamic than holes themselves IMO.
Not sure what it costs to join there (heard various #s being thrown around so I’m not sure whats accurate) but I would struggle with lack of variety if thats the course i always played. Clearly it seems people go there for the total package – on a nice day the patio dining was in full effect.
Will file it away for the next time i get to play one of the others.
I haven’t played Indian, but I’m pretty confident it’s the least interesting course of the founding three. I’ve consistently heard the same thing you experienced, pretty good greens but needs a lot of tree removal and other work.
It’s a “new money” club with more focus on the social scene than golf. When I moved back to the area and was contacting various clubs in the metro (Blue Hills, Milburn, Mission, Indian, Hallbrook, Leawood South) they were the least welcoming and wouldn’t even let me see the golf course without filling out a questionnaire (which amounted to a social status check) and attending one of the prospective member happy hours.
Last I heard they were up above $50k initiation (I think it was $70k). It honestly might be the last club in town I’d join.
In general KC Golf Scene news, the KFT has renewed their contract with Blue Hills through 2026. We got a better deal out of it this time around, and the tour will actually have to pay for damage repairs going forward. Imagine that!
Indian Hills is a pretty aggressive social club. There are good players there, but they are all coming form money and are likely legacy jr. members. While it doesn’t hold a candle to the white shoe club practices of KCCC, it would be considered in the same realm in a lot of places.
The golf course is exactly what you describe. I played it a considerable amount growing up, and it is pretty bland. I wish they’d open up some of the hole corridors and improve the bunkering, but with how tight the course is routed it’s probably a legitimate safety issue to have no trees between some of those front 9 holes. I do not know if there is any work planned for the golf course, but they are unfortunately land locked pretty hard.
Of the big three, if you are seriously considering any of them, I would join Mission Hills over the other two (given you’re offered a membership). More dynamic course that has had a full renovation done, plus the membership is a little more vibrant.
The answer in northern Johnson Country, however, is always going to be Milburn.
This is accurate and correct. I haven’t played MHCC since they did some reno work in maybe 2013 or 2014 but even before then it was better than IHCC. Having said that, I don’t think I would vibe at any of them. Ranking the courses, I would go KCCC > MHCC > IHCC. Seems weird to say, but the land at IHCC might be better than MHCC though.
Might be, but that stream that meanders through Mission Hills (and it’s opposing bank /ridge that is the main feature of KC’s back 9) is pretty cool. I guess you couldn’t build mansions there!!
Im not in any position to join any of them (unless powerball hits this week)
I think IHCC COULD be interesting given the contours of the property, but to make it that way would take some serious reno and if youre taking it to that point, the membership probably wouldnt enjoy playing it or be conducive to the way people like to play today. Was told yesterday that they “took out one hundred trees this past year”. no idea how accurate that is.
That said, it was a nice day and golf was played. A net win.
