Way to undermine my democratic approach! They don’t have to know that we plan to take over from within, undermine and overtake. The entire US will be the STL roost by 2023.
It’s called a two pronged approach my friend. We have the same name. Two wildly different approaches to world domination. They’ll be so confused which one of us is which we’ll have this thing done by June
(This is all satire)
@sundaybag - are you limited to one Schwaldo a month?
@sundaybag - same question as above
You should have been in the meetings haha. There is certainly a challenge in sharing the pie in the sky idea about these local clubs popping up around the country and fighting for a spot at the world championship representing their region. That was the idea this whole thing was anchored on.
However, after long conversations and Randy raising concerns (totally fair ones) it starts to make more sense to pump the breaks and not totally blow it year 1 by overcommitting.
Guarantee everyone I have talked with privately has felt like I pooped on their parade a bit because I am VERY worried about year 1 and want it to go smoothly. Just want everyone to get along, understand that 2 Roosts in each region doesn’t leave a ton of room for hyper locality and some geographic compromise/bending is likely.
I desperately desperately want to play you guys as well was NE, Des Moines, and maybe even the okies to rep the heartland region. Maybe we can do that in 2022. Maybe it’ll be 2023. Maybe this whole thing sucks and wont go anywhere.
Just asking for a little rope and to be understanding for year one and not throw the hands up if critical mass is in another city 250 miles away.
re: schwaldo - absolutely not!
Team name Flyover Country?
Logo: one wheat stalk
Roost electoral votes: only 1 even though it’s 6 states.
Media coverage: only on NLU Tour Live and our featured groups suck
And due to Imo’s, national morale will be at an all time low.
I must apologize, I offered a logo suggestion for the KC guys and completely neglected the STL That Guys. To make things right, I offer 2 possibilities below.

From STL for most of my life, live in KC for 8+ years now after a pit stop on east coast and I approve of this statement. IMOs is gross, thin crust pizza rules, but provel is trash. Thank God for Waldo Pizza being within walking distance.
Manalive I can’t even remember telling you guys about that!
This whole thread this afternoon has blown up between a couple people I know personally that would get along like a pool of fish. I hear yer voices when I read this back and forth.
I had an absolute FUCKING BLAST playing with AND against Team Jonathan (@Jrembold & @anon43372372), the principle perpetrators of the STL #involvement. I will drive 2+ hours any day I have free to play golf with those two schekels every chance I get. They are good players and funny dudes with no ego. Just a sheer delight playing (and beating!) them (TWICE!) in the Show-Me-Showdown at Tanglewood. Wish more of my KC brethren coulda been there…
My thoughts about how to organize a roost with all these participants simply comes down to the limitations @sundaybag plainly reports. We are handcuffed THIS YEAR and wether it’s Omaha or Saint Louis or KC that gets the gig, so be it. But what could be epic is if we do organize into pods and have a true regional tourney that has a KC team, an Omaha team, and DMS team, a STL team (if they feel so inclined) that duke it out to go to the REAL NLU regional.
I dunno. But my #perspective of all the participants in this chat today — although I haven’t met Travis @tnord but he’s been generous with me — is that every dude in here is a fucking super cool dude who’d get along in the best ways.
If we can find a way FOR ALL OF US to be in a Roost — a Heart of America/Great Plains/Flyover Roost — in Year 1, well friends, we could dominate. And year 2 could bring Roosts for everyone.
Santa liked the good little boys that play well together.
Love and Deuces!
I ride with @Jrembold and @anon43372372. A man got to have a code.
I do kinda like Bens idea of a play on the Heartland. Maybe something with skylines and a rooster weathervane. Someone with more skill im sure could do better.
Maybe it’s worthwhile explaining the origins of this thing for those who aren’t regulars in the KC thread. The most immediate Roost discussion began back around post 3200.
But it goes back farther than that. KC, for whatever reason, has been lacking on organization. There’s plenty of us around, likely credit to SGB, but we’ve always been bad at organizing.
There seemed to be a lot of interest in the Roost concept, but nobody really took the lead. I hadn’t listened to the pod until like 3 days ago. I had no idea what the headcount was in IA, NE, OK, MO, or anywhere else. I was just thinking that we here in KC could meet the objectives.
So I decided fuck it, I’ll do it. I put an application in for a KC Roost spot before I even posted the google sheet. So yeah, on Nov 30 around noon when I started down this path, it was all KC based. I unilaterally submitted both a name, and spent 2min creating a KC based logo in MS word so that it looked like I had my shit together and people might be more likely to get on board.
If somebody from Omaha or Iowa wants to participate, I felt like a KC based Roost would afford them the best opportunity to do so, and started “recruiting.”
because it’s the first year, I think that most people understand this is going to be fluid. With the direction things are going on our roster, I really like Ben’s idea to have more of a regional official title and logo, and leveraging the option for alternative logos of merch later in the year being more localized to your metro or whatever direction the group wants.
Inclusion and flexibility will be what gets this off the ground.

truth.
TL;DR of @tnord’s post:
@tnord is sorry for any offence he may have caused. His Roost does not have to be a KC roost, and in all likelihood the NLU boys won’t allow it to be a KC roost. So us heartland boys should stick together to beat the rest of the country next year.
I just deleted what I thought was a bunch of txt and it’s still too long.
Too late dude I read it all and still gave it a
…
So is anyone playing Saturday? Jeebus, I need a game and it’s the only day I can go out.
12/3 update;
our numbers continue to climb, and we’ve reached 42. FOURTY TWO!!! When I submitted I was hoping for mid 20s. MN, which I think has been mentioned as a hotbed of activity sits at 51. Feeling better and better about our chances every day. Regardless, if it doesn’t happen I encourage everybody to jump in with OK, STL, MN, CO, or whatever your most convenient Roost ends up being.
Geographic distribution; 19 MO, 17 KS, 4 NE, 2 IA. There are about 10-11 from outside the KC metro, and I would expect this to increase. As has been discussed by others, I’m in agreement that we should move to a more regional based name/logo.
Some thoughts/themes, as I think we’re more KC & west focused at this time;
Great Plains
High Plains
Prairie
Buffalo
Bison
Dust Bowl
Lewis & Clark Trail
Explorers
Voyagers
Pioneer
I’m not good with names, but I can picture in my head logos that would look cool.

If you could kind of separate out the two silhouettes, and make one the one of them carrying a golf bag, and standing in knee high grass?
Lewis & Clark trail basically bisects our geographic footprint as it follows the Missouri River north, and this association doesn’t even throw shade at StL.

Lots of possibilities with the buffalo/bison that would look good, but I don’t have a name. I don’t think the name has to be related to the image either.
Love seeing the enthusiasm (to put your name on a list at least), hoping that carries over to actual event participation.
The Dust Bowl should definitely be an event name! And loving both the ideas of Lewis & Clark and the Buffalo.
