I grew up in Nebraska and Runza was a staple. Definitely a top 5 fast food restaurant. When I’m in Lawrence I’ll stop at that Runza to get the fix.
the one in mission off Johnson drive closed 2 years before I moved here…very sad day finding out it was closed and not being remodeled or about to open
@RomeToDetroit is this the same Davide that I played with in a Swope 3-man tourney and your buddy was very hungover on the 1st tee (Hole 18) from attending KU Dad’s Weekend?
Yeah, man! What’s up!
Just stumbled across this post. I live in central Kansas, about 3 hours out from KC. So I probably couldn’t make a match every month but would love to get involved in several events a year.
What a ride those last 60 posts have been. To the guy from STL - what a weird, aggressive stance over 250 miles. Its one year and then everyone can have a roost. Or better yet, get more people involved and KC area will happily join the STL group.
Down to drop the Troost reference. Also down to do something not so hyper local. Playing in on the heartland/heart of America thing could be sick. Even though we all like different colleges (isn’t that weird that where we got our education years and years ago divides us at our core?) we can all get down with being from the heart of America. Gotta be some pride in that.
Would give us the opportunity next year to make an alt logo that is more hyper local. Just some thoughts!
Interesting thought I had on this, what if it was one roost which wasn’t specific to either STL or KC and had two separate leagues within it (think AFC and NFC in the NFL). Most of your matches would take place in your league so you’re playing more local, then once or twice a year we have an I-70 showdown between the leagues where some matches for the roost are played out and there is also a side Ryder cup style event that determines a victor between the KC league and STL League.
The above would be assuming there can be only one roost between KC and STL.
Jury still out on this! But if that was the case, you nailed it. Someone would be designated captain to represent the entire roost and they would have geographically relevant co-captains to manage their local pod/conference. Then once they have a winner(s), we can all meet up and put a team together to rep the region at large.
I probably did a poor job of communicating it, but that’s pretty much what I had in mind, and what I have proposed to the NE folks also. They get their own vice captain, operate pretty much as their own roost most of the time with the opportunities for everybody to comingle a couple times a year, then we all come together for the “regional playoff” or whatever.
The STL crowd is absolutely welcome to join us (or we’ll join them, whatever) under this structure. Just jumping around to the different community/roost pages, scouting numbers, and conceptualizing boundaries, I personally feel at this point in time it makes sense for KC to be the hub. But if it comes to be that STL is granted one of the initial spots so be it, throw my name on.
Right now we span Omaha to Wichta, Great Bend to Des Moines. That’s a pretty big net.
EDIT; Ben & I were typing at the same time, and seem to be on the same page. ![]()
Hi, hope this is me. If not, it can be. If you can’t see that we’re having fun and joking about it, not sure what to tell you. We had a KC/STL event this summer and the KC side couldn’t field a team - color me surprised that there are 40+ active KC players that will sustain this.
BUT ALSO
I have no desire to join a roost HQ’d in Kansas City, covering 4+ states, with a Kansas City name and logo.
It’s not a big deal, just not a fit for me. Have fun and good luck.
This may also have been me. It may not have been. But in a way are we all not “the guy from STL”??
If letting off some steam during the monotony of the work day by creating rivalries in jest on an internet golf message board about a yet to be created regional match play golf bracket that doesn’t even have rules or regulations …… then what’s the point of the whole endeavor?
But would you be okay with a roost not specific to either city that included both and didn’t have a logo with a KC or STL theme on it but something more neutral between the two? (and the split league idea mentioned in my post above)
According to the roost guidelines. That specifically goes against the whole spirit of the endeavor. One of the reasons I’ve wanted a just STL central Illinois roost.
From the document:
“ * Clubs will be geofenced organically with input from NLU
- Can use metroplex guidelines if geography/population makes sense (ex. Kansas City makes more sense than a Missouri club as St. Louis is closer to Illinois)”
Sure, but at that point, are there not just Roosts within Roosts? A turduckroost? It’s roosts all the way down?
It wasn’t. Very much throw your hands up and pout energy regardless.
Which part? The part where we tried to follow the Roost formation guidelines that specifically referenced the separation of KC and STL?
The part where we had fun and put up some GIFs related to Roost rivalry and wanting to have our own?
The part where you bailed on the KC/STL event because you’re afraid of playing @DivotPatterns?
Without seeing the bigger picture of how the regional roosts are turning up, it’s hard to say what makes sense now. Ideally we are able to have an individual KC roost and an individual STL roost but if the boys up top don’t see that working out, remaining flexible seems to be the best way to allow us to all be in a Roost.
Year 1 this will likely be the case. It might not be though. Still need to field applications. See what we’ve got. If we think we can accommodate every roost individually, great. Having some level of understanding that it might not be the case (some Roosts might have to combine) and at the end of the day, the whole thing is to get folks playing together, would go a long way.
How I read these comments are “If we don’t get exactly what we want year 1, then we are out because we don’t like KC”
Which I truly don’t understand that thinking.
Also, I wrote that section of the guide lol. I am intimately connected.
@VinnyG, you’re being entirely reasonable and I want you to know that I don’t disagree with you in the slightest. It can absolutely work that way.
It’s an odd dichotomy of grass-roots formation (go build your roosts!) coupled with vague oversight (let’s see how this all comes together and then make decisions) that leads to a rush to gather members to anchor a regional foothold that I don’t understand.
This is all being taken way too seriously.
This has nothing to do with KC vs. STL. I’ve never even been to KC and I’m looking forward to visiting so I can get a GIR clinic from @KC_Badger. If it ends up that there’s a Great Plains, Midwest, whatever Roost and we all play in our pods, I can get down with that. I’m not interested in joining a KC roost, with a KC name, a KC logo, when I have 0 affiliation with the city.
I know! That’s why it’s funny. You specifically called this out!
Pretty much. And let the record show I have no ill will towards KC. Shout out to @scagnetti and the G Spot Tornado.
But if this is something that is voluntary, I don’t think anyone would blame me for trying to get what I want
