Roll Call: KC Area

You’d have to really snap hook one to end up OB on 1 or 2. There’s a bunch of space left and some trees to stop your ball before you’d end up on the road. The range is in play right on 1, but it’s also dogleg left with a 3w or long iron, so it takes a big miss or bad decision.

yeah, it was like my 2nd tournament ever playing off a 7 so I’m sure my memory includes far more pucker factor than is warranted. I think I hit 3w into the tree on the left on 1 from the “players” tees. Having my name announced was jarring!

Random, but what are the most friendly walking courses in the metro? Probably won’t pick up a trolley until the lady and I buy a house next year, but now that she’s getting into the game it would be nice to get some exercise with it.

public? private? what area of town are you looking?

Public: Swope (short walk but kinda hilly), the South/North 18 at OP, St. Andrews, Heritage (a couple long-ish green-tee walks but very doable), Sunflower, Minor Park

Public. I’ll travel anywhere in the metro, but currently live 5 minutes east of Zona Rosa. Shoal is where we go on the regular for the driving range.

Would love to get back to the Lenexa/Shawnee area when we buy, but the lady will likely want the North KC/Parville area.

I don’t know much about golf on the northern side of town, but yeah…Swope. Or if you want to head west Sunflower and Dubs Dread are other good walkable options.

Around you Shiloh Springs in Platte City and Hodge Park are both easy walks as well. Premier golf experiences? Nah, but a good time nonetheless.

And as the Parkville representative on this board I say come on over!

Let’s hope! Housing market is nuts. I’m very interested in a spec home, but the price of lumber might make that not possible. We’ll see what it’s like this time next year. We’ll be looking in the $300-350k range and able to put 15-20% down.

Even the North/West and West/South at OP (or Sykes Lady as it is now) is walkable. They’ll let you take a cart over to the west links, leave it there, walk, then drive back without charging a cart fee. Gonna be doing that Sunday myself

sorry gents, I have to WD today.

absolute disaster at our house as the bathtub got left on for over an hour and I’ve got major water issues. I was up until 130am last night ripping out carpet and drywall, and have to keep clearing shit out today so we don’t get mold.

EDIT; registered for the next one at ironhorse if anybody else is playing. Hope I can improve on the 10 I took on #13 last time! It’s been a long time since I played here, but watching the flyovers it looks like you hardly need driver around the whole course.

Sorry to hear that! Good luck at home.

At Ironhorse you need driver on Holes 4, 9, 10 and 18. Optional on everything else including the “par 5” 14th. Holes 8, 10, 11, 15 and 18 are tough-ies. Its my favorite course to score on, because Driver is BY FAR where I lose the most strokes.

Side note: Let’s see if anyone can beat this. Started playing golf in April 2013. Since then have had these drivers:

  • Beginners set Driver (I think the brand was called Persimmon)
  • Snake Eyes Square Driver (Found in a trash can at the range in Pittsburg, KS)
  • Taylormade Burner 2.0 (Worst golf club ever?)
  • Callaway X-Hot
  • Callaway Razr Fit Extreme
  • Cobra Fly-Z
  • Taylormade M2 2016
  • Cobra King LTD Black (Best golf club ever?)
  • Cobra F9 Speedback
  • Taylormade M2 2017
  • Titleist TS3 (Got it last week used, hate it already)

Depending on the tees, I’ll hit driver on 3, 4, 6, 9, 10, 11, 14, 16, and 18 at Ironhorse.

Woof, tough day for the NLU KC crew… I too had to drop today. Was warming up on the range yesterday and hit a 5 iron that just wrecked my back. Like, shooting hot knives into my lower back on rotation. Unfortunate to say the least as I was looking forward to that round and today, especially with snow (wtf?) in the forecast tomorrow.

In related news, if anyone has a lead on a good chiropractor in the northland, hit me up

Anyone have an inside scoop on the grounds crew debacle at Fred Arbanas? I know there was a news story on channel 4 last night but haven’t been able to watch that yet. Heard they have to shut down for over a month to fix all the greens.

I read about it in the Star a couple days ago:

Jackson County’s 18-hole Fred Arbanas Golf Course is closed all month and the county will be out more than $100,000 because someone misapplied lawn chemicals last fall, killing grass on 95% of the greens at the course, according to documents obtained by The Star. Workers have been replacing damaged sod on the course’s greens with sod hauled in from Colorado, as the county’s own sod farm was depleted from last year’s renovation of the county’s Par 3 course, according to a memo from Parks + Rec director Michele Newman to County Executive Frank White. Newman requested the emergency purchase in March, after discovering that the excessive application of pre-emergent herbicide last fall had killed the grass. The new sod was estimated to cost $27,525 and, according to Newman’s memo, the county planned to contract with a company to help with preparation and installation at a cost of $8,000.

Siiiiiiiiick.

Yeah That’s terrible. I really love playing Fred Arbanas. That course has a feel to it you don’t see much around KC

Played Lake Shawnee in Topeka the other day for the first team. Quite a nice public track!

Damn. This must be a KC thing. Similar thing happened at Wolf Creek about 3 years ago. Their Greens were only finally all the way back about 18 months ago. Although in that case it’s not tax payers footing the bill, just a bunch of Rich Johnson County boys running around with their dicks flapping around.
