Roll Call: KC Area

Well, there’s a possibility this thread gets nuked into oblivion (and by into oblivion, I mean “behind a paywall”) sometime soon. I hope not, but if it does, it was nice knowing ya and also message me if y’all wanna get together.

Hopefully, the local threads stay online for everyone, but if not will miss out on your input here. So you don’t find the value in the nest membership?

Yeah, I mean I found as much value in the board before paying for the nest membership and really just don’t agree with the decisions NLU has been making. The general defensiveness is really off-putting to me and because of that, I’m going to choose to sit this one out.

Well we need to make sure KC continues to get together for local meet ups and what not. Especially in the futue with out COVID being around…which is hopefully sooner than later

I don’t know if I agree with it or not, but I understand it.

I’ve canceled all publications other than TGJ, canceled my cable subscription, and have elected to contribute my money to NLU and TFE.

I’ll still be around, and hopefully can make it out next year.

similar sentiment. It’s their business and they can do what they want. Love supporting The Fried Egg.

I’m starting to look into memberships / country club moves for next year. I’ve seen some awesome deals thru The Deuce and Tiffany Springs for like $125/month unlimited play and range. Anyone have any input? I’ve asked a lot of CC about their junior memberships and such but those crazy 10k+ initiation fees are ridiculous in my opinion.

I’m very biased here but if it’s between those two the Deuce is a no brainer. We have had several groups of members leave for Tiffany for a year after TG gives them a ‘sweetheart’ deal, only to come back the next year complaining about lack of access at 5 hour rounds being the norm on the weekends. Private v Public is very different.

Also, FWIW I think most clubs have very low initiations for under 35 memberships (usually much lower than the ‘full’ membership) + option to pay the downstroke over time so I wouldn’t completely rule out places like Shadow, Milburn, Blue Hills, etc if that fits better with your location.

I would not forget location as a big factor when looking. I know price is a big variable, but connivance can not be counted out. Nothing better than a 5 PM round in the summer.

have you seen anything official on this yet, or is it mostly just rumors?

Can confirm. Probably anywhere from 4-12 month wait.

just rumors, though I haven’t really had time to pursue at all.

Lionsgate has a pretty good junior membership deal and it goes to 40, not 35 for what it’s worth. It’s not the perfect club, but I’ve enjoyed it. Challenging course, membership/staff isn’t as stuck up as some c.c.'s. I’m in year three and enjoy it although I don’t play enough as I’ve got three kids 5 and under.

before I come to my senses, and knowing that I’m probably taking on more than I can handle…

is there interest in a refuge event at Blue Hills next late-spring-early summer timeframe? I bet I can pitch it as a recruitment event and maybe get it done. I’m just trying to look forward to something.

Really we should do it at Swope, but I don’t have connections there.

morning 18 at Blue Hills, lunch, BCN loop, combined score event. Cold domestic beers to cap it off.

I’m in. We’ve also done some low-key “events” at Swope which usually just involve booking a few tee times on a weekend morning. Easy enough to make happen at some point this winter when there’s a 50° day in January.

I’ve seen those, but with my kids at home it’s basically impossible. here’s to hoping my kids go back to school/summer camp in 2021.

I’m thinking after KFT, late may/early June, sanctioned event.

I would be interested however I am guessing you guys will behind the paywall.

@protrajT on twitter. I think the “event” stuff will be in front of the paywall, but you just might not see the planning going on behind the scenes.
