In the early 2000’s that place was in great shape. If they bring it back to the way Ross wanted it it would be a great course. But I guessing that is not what they are doing.
Imagine paying $500 a month for a Donald Ross course that the new owner wants to turn into a crappy version of Top Golf, when you can walk 18 at Swope for $36 before 1pm and for $24 after 1pm. Yeah the walk can suck at times due to elevation and I’ve had 2 rounds push 4:30-5 hours if you tee off after 11am there but course was in amazing shape both Saturday and Sunday and for that price it’s a no brainer.
Can we also talk about how Deer Creek thinks they are going to survive by offering $62 weekend/ $55 on weekday. It’s a great track but at $45 tops, they think they have an IronHorse type of set up and it’s not even close. I also think IronHorse should be a $55-60 max rate as well.
really? man i have always loved DC. Makes you make shots and is quite difficult when playing fast. If you can score/play well there, always felt like you can play well anywhere. Tight as hell.
I like IH as well, but its just too much work to get there. Plus they are $75 or better during peak season and I can go to Stone Canyon and feel like getting the same thing for less.
Deer Creek is the worst, but does have some cool greens, and will struggle to sell $65 tee times. I think they will survive on member play. Ironhorse can charge whatever it wants and will still sell all of its tee times, so I guess it really just depends on demand more that what we think its “worth.”
When I first read these prices for DC my first thought was how cheap they are. I guess the quality must have fallen off a cliff, when I was working there late 90s-early 2000s I think rates were in the $70-$90 range. Still love that course and can’t wait to play it again next time I’m in town.
Anyone pull/swap shafts on their own? Thinking of some custom ferrules and don’t realllllly want to pay $10 per club to just put the ferrules on.
Bumping this. Who can help me plz.
I build my own clubs, and you’re probably not going to find anyone willing to do it. It’s a tedious process, and $10/club seems like a reasonable price to me. The guys who do it all the time I’m sure can knock them out, but it would take me like 30min-1hr per club to get it right.
Ah I gotcha. I didn’t know how much labor it requires but after learning more about it, seems like you have to pull the shaft, then clean out the old epoxy and then put it back in.
I can’t remember his name, but the old timer at Edwin Watts in OP does great work. Prices were pretty reasonable.
I’ve had him swap shafts and the like a few times, and I’ve never had a single issue.
That dude is cool as hell, helped me with a putter a couple of years back.
Unless your club has a pro shop with a great club builder, EW is the best/safest bet in KC.
Melvin, if we’re thinking about the same guy.
Yup. Melvin sounds right.
Great dude, regardless.
Anyone here interested in playing Swope this weekend? I’ve lived here in town for 5 years and never played it. It would be fun to have someone show me around.
Yikes. Looks like they just hiked up the rates. I played last Saturday at 8:30 for 36. Now they want 52 to walk.
On their website it’s still $36 in the morning and $24 in the afternoon. Is that not what you’re seeing?
Looks like weekday rates are $36/$24, but weekend rates have been increased to $52/$40. Last week it was all $36/$24, regardless of the day.
Oh yeah, I was looking at Friday. Good call.
