Did you forget Red Hawk?
Call me a homer, but DCC takes the crown for me.
My take may very well be due to weather. Cold, soggy, spring day last year. Layout is great, club itself is wonderful. Would like to get out there again on firmer conditions to bring in more strategy.
Could very well make a difference, but you could truly reorder those three clubs and have a hard time arguing one way or the other. They’re all so freaking good.
Side note: I haven’t played DCC since I worked there from '08-'10 so I’ve yet to see the renovations. Hoping to someday get back and check it out.
The reno is great, played it a couple times. Certainly the best on this side of the state.
go fuck yourself.
I will be moving from Ohio to the QCA (Davenport) in a few weeks, originally from NW IL. I need to figure out what Roost I should pledge my allegiance to as it seems Iowa is a no-man’s land for Roosts as of now. Seems my options are Chicago, Wisconsin, Minnesota, or Kansas City/Prairie Club?
Heck yeah, early welcome to the QC! I belong to the 2CGC group since it’s a little closer for me. Can’t go wrong with whoever you choose
The greens at CRCC are fantastic. I’m a Ross fan so naturally gravitated to those. Played it a couple times post renovation and pre derecho and had a blast. Harvester was perfect in every way. Great short variety, conditioning was perfect, fantastic course.
Cop out answer but I switch from day to day on my order of CRCC, Harv, and DCC. All due respect to DMG and Glen Oaks but their not in that discussion.
Have not made it to CRCC in last few years so I havent seen post derecho course yet.
Agreed
Post derecho and then even more tree removal has really helped the property.
I think those three are probably the consensus for most people. Excited to the the reno at Wakonda too. I think the better question is what are everyone’s top three favorite publics in the state.
You would be welcomed with open arms in the GPGC, especially since you’ll technically reside within our geographic footprint, but I’ll forgive you if you choose 2CGC or any of the others with a closer epicenter of events.
However, we do host one major in Des Moines (The Butter Cow), we’re exploring more event opportunities up north to mingle with our Des Moines and Nebraska members, and we do a monthly quota game that allows you the opportunity to win regional team points for GPGC without having to do any travel if you don’t want to. Also, for our annual match play, we do our best (and have succeeded thus far) to pair up the Iowa players in the bracket to limit travel demands in the first few rounds.
You can’t go wrong with whatever you choose, but the GPGC is a great group of people. Best of luck with the move! The QC has come a loooong way since I grew up there. It’s actually kinda…dare I say…cool now?
I hated Wakonda…pre reno. Very excited to see it now. Drone footage looks incredible. Even last year pre reno with just tree removal it was so much better. Features and mounding showed up I never knew was there because of trees. Honestly sad I cant go to the Principle Charity Classic to check it out. But will for sure for TFE event in Sept.
Top 3 public is a good debate as I still need a couple to probably fully form it (Bent Tree, Grand Falls, The Preserve). Right now for me.
Best.
- Spirit Hollow
- Waveland
- Bluetop (I liked the old flooded holes more)
3a) Veenker - If I ever win the lottery Im buying it from IA St and renovating to Perry Maxwell glory.
3b) Wellman GC - had so much damn fun on the sand greens.
I travel Iowa a lot for work and have passed so many backroads small town courses that Im itching to play that look like a cheap quirky blasts.
Am honestly way more excited to see the new Wakonda than I am to see any Champions Tour golf lol. Of course am supposed to go tomorrow when it is forecasted to rain pretty much the entire day
Also didn’t realize that there was a course drone video released. Guess it’s time for me to take a post-lunch break
Totally agree with @Sweet_Cupn_Cake on Spirit Hollow. It’s so good. But I might throw Amana Colonies into the conversation. I played it years ago and thought it was awesome.
Its been years since Ive been there and it was for a bachelor party so need to get back to Amana. Also would like to see Bos Landen again. I believe both are having bunker updates by Hoekstra design as time and money allows.
David Blum and Tyler Rae on X have some great ones.
