Anyone been over to The Forge at Palmer Hills? I kind of forget about it until I go play Palmer. It looks cool but haven’t done it.

Greetings Guise!
Going to be passing through on business Nov 1 - 3.
I know I’ll be visiting customers in IC, Waterloo, Ames, Des Moines, and Cedar Rapids…and hope to play some late-season Golf.
Between “Top 100” lists and “Best in State” courses, the courses I’ve got on the radar are:
- Amana Colonies
- TC of Iowa
- Brown Deer (Coralvile)
I know I know…Veenker and Waveland exist and I do need to watch Strapped: Iowa again to see if I want to try and squeeze in a round at one or both. But I will be back next spring/summer and will most definitely hit those when I return.
BUT - what do y’all think? Those 3 tracks worth a visit? Any other recommendations in the public circuit?
If anyone is around on those days, I’ll try and post my tee times so you can join if you’d like.

@TCRBrad Only course I can speak to specifically would be ACGC. Fun course, but zero flat lies, very hilly.
I drive by Brown Deer every few days and berate myself for not playing yet, looks like a lot a fun.
I ride super hard for Stone Creek in Williamsburg (south side on I80, opposite where you would exit for Amana), although it is only a 9 hole. WAY more walkable than ACGC and just a delightful little course I play every weekend. Not saying ACGC should be skipped, but throwing SCGC in the mix.
Would love to play any of the IC/CR courses you decide to play as I’ve not spent much time (read: zero time) on any of good ones. Which I am now realizing is quite strange as I live in IC.
Couple days notice and I’ll be there.

Yeah I’ve passed Brown Deer a few times during visits to campus, and never made it up there.
Will most definitely keep you posted on my itinerary, but let’s shoot for the 1st at The Deer
All 3 are great courses in my opinion.
I have only played Brown Deer and Amana once each, and loved them both.
TCI I play a few times a year. They flipped the nines around this year, and for some reason I hate it. Tough starting stretch now, and not as fun of a finish. They have also been doing a lot of improvements such as new tee boxes, widen a few fairways, shorted/extended a few holes, etc.
If you swing through Des Moines let me know and I would be happy to join you at TCI or anywhere in the area if I am available.

I didn’t get down to TCI this year and it used to be one of my favorite courses. Then they started all the development, now flipping the nines, it’s falling out of favor.
I would be down for a round near CR/IC.
Amana is a great layout, hilly with uneven lines and penal if missing fairways. Fall makes it tough with leaves coming down but they do a good job of blowing them,
Brown Deer is a solid choice. Front 9 is newer, more open, a prairie style and the back 9 was the original 9 that cuts through some housing. More narrow and tree lined.
BlueTop Ridge at Riverside Casino and Resort is another solid option. Heartland Style course. Undulating greens, nice mix of holes.

Since I know I have about 6 visits to make across 3 days, I think we can make 2 rounds happen (Nov 1 and Nov 3)
Figure we play Brown Deer Monday, and then Amana/TGI on Wednesday? Pumped to check either track out, they both look like really fun Fall Golf options.
My thoughts exactly. I do like some of the changes the made to a few holes thought. I usually enjoy playing it a handful of times a year. This year, I never had much desire to get back after playing it once.
Brown Deer is terrific and a tale of 2 9’s. Many scoring opportunities mixed amongst some tough tight holes. Worth the trip.

Unfortunately same here, Tuesday’s are a beast work-wise for me.
On that note, playing at Muscatine Muni 9am this Saturday, 10/30. 3 other spots if anyone wants to play.

Next season when I’m out there with more time - DEFINITELY will hit you guys up.
Might be hosting an event with work in either Des Moines or IC venue pending. I’ll let you know if/when that happens. Would be a fun time and a chance to hit some of our putters.
