Roll Call: Indiana - crossroads-coop.com - Roost Major Signup Feb 1st

Helllllll yeah. Love to hear that. Haha, I don’t think my future brother in law has really played since shoulder surgery a year ago, so this should get interesting.

It’s been a couple weeks but last time I was out there things were fur sure spicy

Awesome. Absolutely love to hear that for us. Sounds like we may move it up a bit tees wise for everyone’s sake. Looking at it, I think the Purdue Pete tee’s may be calling our names. Lol

If you get rained out on, say hole 14 on Bear Slide, you’ll be better for it.

Indiana trip solidified.

Monday:
Pfau course @ 11:36, playing with two members and will probably do a replay afterwards. From their website they seem to have a very high-end practice area that access is included with yours greens fee. Plan is to spend the morning with a proper range session.

Tuesday:
Pugatory @ 7:00 booked a single 3 spots open. Probably walk this round
Bear Slide @ 12:51 also booked a single and 3 spots open.

Wednesday:
Prairie View @ 8:00 Two spots open
Plum Creek @ 2:03pm Two spots open

Thanks for all the tips and suggestions on courses. Feel free to join if you want!

Found this and added The Fort for Thursday.

Looks like a banger of a trip.

Day one in the books of this Indiana swing. Got down to Pfau a little earlier than expected, hoping to maybe get out on the course a little earlier. FYI, they open later on Mondays with the first tee time at 10AM, due to course maintenance. Place was in fantastic shape. The greens were smooth but a little slow. The waste areas and bunkers are no joke. Ended up moving my tee time up an hour and was paired with another single who has never played the course either. He is a member at Pinehurst and was a little road trip up to Minnesota to see Metallica where the Vikings play. We were able to play through one group in front of us and finish in just over 3 hours.
With the early finish I decided to play the course again. First time I played from the White tees, I am not the longest hitter so that 6200 is good for me. Shot an 88 with ESC with 4 penalties and only 1 three putt.
Second round I shortened it up and played the White/Gold combo which is 5814 on the scorecard. Shot an 83 due to a triple on #18! I didn’t come all the way to Bloomington to lap up on the last hole and threw one into the heather. If you have played there you know how penal it is on 18 if you’re short or errant. Photo of 18 green from the fairway is last photo attached.

We got out to Warren at ND this weekend and found an NLU tee on #9 on Friday. Had any of you guys been around? We really enjoyed it!

Only hole on the course you can’t run the ball up to the green.

You’re a good one for the following reasons:

  • played the correct tees
  • took the unique quirks of Pfau in stride (waste areas and bunkers infuriate us all)
  • Played a 3hr round there, which is only possible on a weekday without students in town

Well played and I’ll join you next time

Day 2 &3 of Indiana

Purgatory was top notch. It provided a lot of challenges though out the course with great bunkering and native areas to force you to be very intentional on your routing. Fortunately I was paired up with another single who knew the course and help shepherd me around. I easily could have stayed and played a second round there. Also a fantastic walking course, not a lot of elevation changes but the course had great mounding areas and collection spots to make up for the minimal inclines. Ended up shooting an 85 with an underwhelming 3putt for double on the last hole.
Bear Slide, Since I finished so early at Purgatory and I headed straight over to Bear Slide and was able to get on the course ahead of a larger outing I felt a little too rushed in this round. I played it alone and seemed to be in too quick of a pace and it surely affected my play and scoring. Just couldn’t get into the rhythm I had at Purg. The guy I played with at Purg gave me some good insights as to what to expect there and that was helpful but over all I didn’t enjoy the rounds as the other ones on this trip. The back nine was a lot more interesting than the front for me. It’s more parkland style where the front is semi links style but lacked character.
Day 3 I played at Prairie View the only Robert Trent Jones designed course in Indiana. This was a played out on a great piece of property with tight angled fairways with corner bunkering and well defended greens multi level greens, . @OTPLefty drove up to meet me and was a very gracious host even though he took all my money winning all three legs of our high stakes Nassau. He knew the course very well and he made very few mistakes shooting an easy 76. He had to give me 8 strokes and the back was well contested by me but, his birdie on 18 topped my par to seal the deal. Two blowup holes, one on each side of the nines cost me an extra 4-5 stokes on my 87.
Day 4, I played at The Fort, a Pete Dye design. Typical Pete forcing you to work against the sight lines you see and play the contours you want to avoid. For an Indiana course this had lots of elevation changes and the course highly encouraged me not to walk which I am glad I followed their advice. Another pairing with a knowledgeable regular made for an enjoyable round.
Of the five courses I played
I would surely go back to Pfau, Purgatory, and Prairie View and skip The Fort and Bear Slide to discover some of the other Indiana gems so many of you all suggested.
