The condition of West Chase is hit and miss, but I like the layout.
Indiana University Pfau Course
Played it today, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
The rough, fescue, and bunkering are absolutely brutal. You truly are punished for missing the fairways, but outside of a few holes, most left you a little room to be off line. Several long, deep greens on some longer holes, which lead to opportunities to run the ball onto them from deep. We were asked to keep the carts in the fairways whenever off the path, so I believe they are wanting to grow the rough up. It’s already punishing.
Most memorable hole IMO was 14 (forgot to take a picture). It’s a long par 4 that from the tee is a complete puzzle. It’s a rather sharp dogleg right, that from the normal tees (anything non championship or tournament) allows you to cut off as much of the dogleg as your driver yardage will allow. The only danger from being short is a valley containing what looks like approx. 20 deep bunkers. From the tee the fairway looks way tighter than it actually is, so find your reachable line, rip it, and a comfortable approach remains. Super fun.
Cost was $80 with cart and range balls included. The clubhouse/bar/dining was closed due to University COVID restrictions, but they had complimentary bottled water and chips/granola bars. Once things get back to normal they’re supposed to have Upland Brewing running their food/drink i believe. Either way the course was a lot of fun and I can’t wait to play it again.
Wish I took more pics but here’s what I got. I don’t like pulling my phone out that much anymore while I’m playing.

The carts make me want to barf as a purdue alum.
I get it. I’m a Louisville alum myself. Just appreciate the effort in making them fit the course.
Don’t worry, that seems to be the early signature hole. It is the only one it seems the University has distributed drone shots for.

When we get to play it we’ll be taking plenty of pictures and, hopefully, drone shots, too.
That’s it. That hole is awesome. Definitely not many like it in southern Indiana.
I guess it’s 10 bunkers but looks like 20 from the tee lol
It’s going to be awhile, but I think I have two pieces from Steve Smyers on #14. #content
I asked him to take me to 2 or 3 of his favorite spots on the course… (A few of these on the front were from last year when I met him).
I know I said I wasn’t going to spam here, but this is salient to many of the questions here regarding parameters/philosophies that went in to building the course the way it is.
good to see an addition to the NE gang. Haven’t had the pleasure of playing with Matt but let me say wait 'til you get a chance to play with @SvenPaterson… you’ll wonder how you can play golf without him. No one shoots an 86 better. No one.
If you like classy chips and solid three putts, I’m your man.
Come join us @papateeps, just don’t take our lines off the tee…
In, just gimme a time and place. Currently in a Wednesday night league but most other nights, I’m free.

if you can swing 7.30am most weekends (fluctuates between sat/sun) we have a good crew going and would be more than happy to have you join us. I’ll let @mulloo coordinate with you on our next outing - I typically stay for 9 holes, and he might appreciate a friend to tag along on the back nine . We are in the Fort Wayne area fyi but def interested in expanding out to some of the surrounding courses too if you aren’t in the metro area.
I can definitely swing morning rounds. I’m FW as well, so anywhere is good for me, super laid back. As long as I’m playing, I’m happy. Always down for 9 or 18 or 36 or a putting match on the warmup green.
Coming in from Virginia Friday through Independence Day to visit my folks. I will be about 35 minutes north of Lafayette. I would love to get out for a round or two. Anyone goofing off next week?
If you’re north of Lafayette, you need to play Sandy Pines in DeMotte. Really good, here’s a bit of a review. Obviously, the two Purdue courses are also great options.
Might have one more option for you…
Crap carts imo.
Sandy Pines in Demotte is excellent like @auribe14 suggested. Both Purdue courses are a must. Try Aberdeen in Valpo. Another nice track. Coyote Crossing in West Laf isn’t bad either. A notch under Purdue’s courses.
I’d recommend Tippecanoe Country Club (open to the public) in Monticello. It has some neat holes along Lake Shaffer and was expanded from 9 to 18 holes by Pete Dye in the early 60’s. It’s a fun course to play.
