Member here at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. West Lafayette resident. If any Nest members or NLU fans find themselves up here to play, shoot me a PM and I can get you guys around. Both Ackerman and Kampen are fantastic tracks. Have about 50 rounds between the two of them already this year.

Cheers.

We’re going to play them this year as part of our Pete Dye Golf Trail project. Just starting to contact the courses for that, now that things are opening up a bit.

Now we’ve got a course to compete with you down in B-town…

Good to hear! My best friend who went to IU always said your course was underwhelming. Nice to see it get an upgrade.

Lookie what the Brickyard staff posted today. A slideshow of the track (and golf course) growth.

Fort Wayne resident, located NE as well. Main courses are Shoaff and Cherry Hill, but willing to play anywhere. Got the golf pass last year and did about 70% of the courses. @mulloo/@Matthewhope17 I’m down to get out and about with some fellow NLU’ers, my usual playing peeps aren’t golf sickos like me.

I am not going to post here every time I put up one of these videos, but I have a bunch of questions and then at least 20 on-course observations from Steve that I will be posting on my social media over the next week or so. I’d appreciate it if you watch them that you follow as well. Thanks.

Lots of IU golf course talk here:

No, what I’ms saying is that the new rating only applies to scores posted after the rating is official. If you played on the course before that, the old rating is what applies.

Pretty sure you can’t hold your score and post it later. I think even GHIN will apply the old rating, but if it doesn’t and applies the new rating, that’s not right.

I’m reaching out for more info on this. I’m fairly certain of the above, but not 100%.

Looking for some Indy course recommendations.

My brother-in-law will be in town next month and we want to play a couple rounds together.

He shoots in the mid-to-high 70s. I’ve been playing for about a year, can shoot high-80s on a shorter/easier course, will fight hard to break 100 on a longer/better course. Other than a couple guest visits to country clubs, I generally play cheap, open tracks like Sahm and Riverside (RIP).

Looking for courses that will interest him but not blow me away. I’m in Nora so north side is preferred.

I have a short list that includes Trophy Club, Plum Creek, The Fort, Prairie View, Brickyard (not north side but should still get consideration for a visitor).

Indy area experts, any of these that will be too much for my game or not enough for his? Others I should throw into the mix?

RIP in peace Riverside.

I played Trophy Club yesterday. It’s a great course, but it can definitely get tricky given the conditions. I am typically a pretty good putter and I couldn’t make a putt for my life yesterday. Also if it’s windy that course can be a beast.

Given what you’ve explained, The Fort and Brickyard are your two best bets in my opinion. The Fort is beautiful. There are some spots where it can be hard, but overall I don’t think it’s really too overwhelming, especially if you can keep the ball somewhat straight off the tee. Same goes for the Brickyard. It’s super cool (maybe a bit overpriced), but you’re not paying for the course so much as you are the chance to play inside the track at the IMS. Honestly, I don’t think it’s a very hard course at all, and you’re sure to have fun.

Those would be the courses I would show someone from out of town if I wanted them to leave thinking, “man, Indianapolis has some cool golf courses!” Hard to go wrong with them.

OK, the old course was closed in 2018, I think. The college team has been playing on the new course since the fall. For sure, the old course ratings should be long gone from GHIN.

I don’t know how long it takes to do a rating, but I would assume that the course hasn’t been officially rated if those ratings are not in GHIN yet. So what are you supposed to do it you play the course during the “public” opening week? Anything played since the season opened would be on the new course- the course won’t change any just because it is officially rated.

The course is The Pfau Course at Indiana University.

I would look at Wood Wind in Westfield/Sheridan. It is the only one I can think of that is close to the class of the ones you mentioned.

My best round in the last ten months was at The Trophy Club, for what it is worth.

Going again with the 98% certainty: if the course isn’t rated, you can’t post a round played there. The rating doesn’t take too long to do - several hours with a small team, and then plugging the data into a computer.

What has the AGA said?

If those are the official ratings, why is the AGA dragging their feet on making them official? When is the publication date?

No idea what you’re talking about here…

I agree on the comments you’ve heard so far. I’d also suggest Bear Slide (Cicero) or West Chase (Brownsburg).

Born, raised and currently live in Zionsville (I really spread my wings) and this is a great piece of property. My wife and I inquired about a lot in the development when they first announced the project, so now i’ll just need to hit the lottery.

Yes, I should have included Bear Slide, and Purgatory. Both difficult courses but well kept. How is West Chase doing these days?
