Monday, babe. Very excited.
Report back if you get a chance to play it soon. I’m visiting my folks/going on a buddies trip next month and hope to sneak a round in out there.
Opens for public play on Monday, June 15 (tee times opened up today). Gonna be $80 a pop if you’re not IU-affiliated.
I’m meeting with the architect, Steve Smyers, on Saturday but unfortunately they’re not letting me play. Big donor event on Sunday and they’re saving the “public” reveal for them.
Check out the video here: SI - Indiana University New Golf Course Opens
BTW: I won’t have any drone videos (even Steve can’t use his) but I just got hooked up with the SID and I’ll see what media they’ve got.
P.S. Hmmm… either they’re already sold out on the 15th or the system isn’t working yet. And it is limited in how far ahead you can reserve, so the 15th is the farthest out right now.
The course isn’t officially rated yet (I worked with one of the guys going to do it on Election Day) but this is what they have on the tee times site.
I had read in an architectural article already that they thought it was going to be an 80 Rating, so I guess they’re going to go with it until it is official.
So how would this work, @iacas, if you play a course before it is officially rated? Hold your score until the new rating gets posted (they do have the old course still in GHIN)?
The old course was truly dangerous to play. Exposed tree roots everywhere!! Fan fact. on one of the old par 3’s there is a hiking trail behind it with a big ravine. That ravine had about 200 golf balls in it a couple years ago.
Yeah, it was just kind of there. It was obviously nothing special 30 years ago when I was in Bloomington.
True. It did have the driving range going for it. You can go hit until 10 or 11 something like that. Best part of Bloomington IMO. You could drive to Lake Griffey and without leaving that road, go practice short game. That was my daily routine for about 4 months when I was there for a summer.
How about this? All pictures courtesy of IU Athletic Department (they’re not letting anyone else put a drone up).
I’m having a hard time picturing the layout/routing compared to the old one. Where does the clubhouse sit comparatively
Roughly the old first green. You now use the same entrance as the Indiana University Foundation. New driving range goes back up the 1st hole corridor.
The course uses a lot of the old course corridors (with less trees), but also spills out in to what used to be the Par 3 course.
You can’t post it unless it’s officially rated. No such thing as holding your score.
Just posted this in the IndyCar thread, but here are the two versions of the golf course at the Indianapolis Motor Speeway.
Had a great day yesterday making #content.
Spent a good hour plus with Steve Smyers driving around The Pfau Course at Indiana University. This thing is going to be a beut! Unfortunately didn’t get to play it yet because they were saving the “public” unveil for the donors today.
So, I played the newly renamed (as of a couple years) The Golf Club at Eagle Point- formerly Eagle Pointe Golf and Tennis Resort. First time there even though I spent almost ten years in Bloomington. The course is nicely interesting and is rounding in to shape. Still not a fan of the rough- kind of wispy and we lost several balls in it, even when we watched them land- and wish they would have water in their water features. How much cooler would these be with running water?!?
Overall a good experience, except for the crappy golf being played. We were backed up for most of the back 9 but still finished in 4 hours.
Sure there is- wait until they update the course with the new rating in GHIN, then enter the score. Not sure why it hasn’t been rated/updated yet- the college teams have been playing on it since Fall.
My buddy played it this morning. Said the greens were fantastic and many had a weird square shape. Lots of fescue, lots of cool bunkers. He played blue tees and said they were brutal for him, lot of 200+ approaches on the par 4’s.
Here’s a cool video on this link
I’m playing it Wednesday morning, I’ll try to get some pics
It’s a damn shame what’s happened to the Pointe over the last several years. Financial issues, multiple owners. They offered a 3 year membership this year for around $75 total lol.
Actually was in pretty good shape- tees, fairways and greens at least. Not a fan of the rough, as it was long and wispy with some weeds. We lost several balls that we saw land. Overall, though, a good deal at $31 or so if you’re anywhere close.
I’m happy to hear that. Can’t beat the price that’s for sure.
