Ummm…
Hate to say it. I want everyone to play but I have a bone to pick. I play at my home club North of Lafayette. There have been way more people there due to out of state traffic. Which again, is perfectly fine. More money for my home course more improvements to make awesome! However, if you are coming from out of state, don’t be a scum bag. In the last 4 weeks I have been hit into more times than I ever have in the 13 years i have been golfing at this course. Has any one else had these problems with our out of state friends?
I have a buddy who lives in the Goshen/Elkhart area and he said the courses are packed with Michigan license plates.
It’s been a lot of people from Illinois for us. Again, no problem with it just people not following the TC way.
It’s a long story but we’ve relocated to the South Bend area from Indianapolis to ride out some of the COVID-19 shelter in place order with family as we need help with childcare. I entirely agree, courses here are over run with people driving in from the Chicago area and Michigan. Tee times are entirely booked and their parking lots are filled with out of state plates. In Indianapolis our head pro explicitly told me that the order from the mayor to close golf courses in Marion county came down because golfers and golf courses weren’t observing social distancing guidelines. People are upset because you should still be able to go golf but a minority has ruined it for everyone. Personally, I’m rather observant of the social distancing guidelines so going to one of these crowded courses with people coming in from all over has no appeal to me.
The courses are not crowded, though. Without any indoor or practice facilities, there should be what, no more than 30 - 36 foursomes actually on the course at a time?
It is irresponsible people doing irresponsible things that are causing the problems. Of course, the clubhouse, patios and parking lots are the easiest places for this to happen and for anyone peeking in to see.
Hey guys, I moved to Indy last year and have been playing almost all of my golf out at Twin Bridges on the west side towards Danville. I wan to know what are the must play places in the area that I may not know about. I’ve played Trophy Club, the Fort, Brickyard, Hickory Stick, Purgatory, Praire View and some others. Any suggestions for where to play next?
Also looking for some money games around town. I’m a +1 handicap and want to find a game where handicaps don’t ruin everything for better players.
Wood Wind is a pretty good course and hole #6 is possibly my favorite hole so far in the Indy metro. You should play it before that hole goes away to housing.
Do you have a comp conditions wise to anything I have played?
Haven’t played many this year, but it was in pretty good shape a month ago or so.
I’m playing woodwind tomorrow with some coworkers, I’ll let you know what it looks like after the rain.
Woodwind was in pretty good shape all things considered. @auribe14 is right in saying that it will likely get leveled for housing, there are new housing developments being built on three sides of the course.
Some of the bunkers were washed out and a few had standing water, but overall it was in fine shape. It appears that they are rehabbing their tee boxes and the markers are close together and stacked on top of each other on par 3’s. the double green on 8/10 has to be one of the coolest greens in the area. It’s definitely worth playing.
Prairie View was in good condition when I was there a few weeks ago.
The golf course is not going away- that was secured over the last couple of years when Cohoat and O’Neal took over.
What is going to happen is #6 will go away, as well as parts of #5 and #7, I believe. You may not have noticed, but they built two new holes in amongst those houses next to the clubhouse. Once those are grown in and ready for play, they start tearing up the southeast corner of the course.
I played my annual round at Meridian Hills yesterday with our family friend who belongs there. I have never been a fan of that course but they removed 150+ trees and I must say they are heading in the right direction as far as becoming an interesting golf course. Apparently the plan is to remove more trees and add a bunch of bunkers so potentially good news all around there.
Does anyone have any interest in trying to do a meet up in Indianapolis? Central and there is plenty of golf! Let’s go launch em!
I can play either day this weekend, anywhere is fine Indy metro.
Originally from Indiana and now live in Texas, isn’t the renovated IU course opening up soon?
