Great layout if they can get it back in good shape. Used to frequent there when I worked nights, either hit the range or play 9 on my way home.
Is Melrose still the shittiest course in town?
Been MIA for a bit. Played High Meadow Ranch and BlackHorse recently. Both in good shape. Greens at HM were really good and BH was a bit shaggy.
Was a 5.2 index to start the year and set a goal to get to a 3 by year end. Now at a 4.1. Getting close!
Anyone taken a lesson out at Golf Club of Houston? I have a gift card for the academy there and was thinking of going.
Depends on your mindset. Obviously your expectations need to be very low. We go out there to practice wedges and its more fun than going to the range
There was a dead dog on one of the tee boxes the last time I played there
How was the pace at High Meadow Ranch? I played out there after a holiday and enjoyed it but there weren’t many groups playing that day. I’ve heard it can be really slow
hahhaha that’s unfortunate. We witnessed/heard a streetwalker having sex inside a car just outside the fence. Didn’t let it ruin our day though
The staff there is pretty good. Uncle is a member there and raves about the lessons. I’ve only had a fitting, but the facility is the best in town. I’d definitely go for it if you have a gift card. You won’t regret it.
It was average. And by that I mean probably 5hrs. I love that course, but quick play isn’t one of its strengths. Maybe the only course in town you’ll see someone ride their horse and some drive their Lamborghini to the same place.
On a similar note, a video is making its rounds today of a blindfolded man pleasuring himself in a green side bunker at Hermann Park. So apparently it’s not just Melrose
I was told that video would never see the light of day
Your strokes gained in bunker stats are otherworldly
Playing Wildcat tomorrow. Hoping for a 5 hour round. I quit golf six years ago because I sucked and the Houston public courses I frequented averaged 5+ hours
Wildcat just beats me up when I play it. Though, I’ve only played the highland 18, which certainly has some of the dumbest holes in the city of Houston. Can’t speak to the other side.
The greens at Melrose don’t exactly roll smooth and I don’t think the pins have ever been moved, but its fun target practice with a wedge and you can BYOB. They have a little Scramble every Thursday at 6pm I’ve been wanting to check out sometime
Is that place still cash only? I went out there probably about 7 years ago and it just seemed if they even put in minimal effort of up keep it could be a cool spot. Like Acorn 5050 vibes with a shitty par 3 instead of an shitty driving range.
Got an opening on the 6:30 slot tonight at Memorial if anyone wants to come walk a half round.
Opening for one in the 6pm slot at Memorial tonight. Y’all are making me sound like a broken record over here!
I have three extra spots open at Memorial on Saturday at 2:40 if anyone is interested in joining up.
