I personally wouldn’t use anyone at Memorial unless you are a beginner. Most of the good teaching pro’s are at private courses and you can just call and request a lesson even if you arent a member. I’ve used David Pilsner at Timber Creek and Rene Rengel at GolfCrest before and both are really good. Someone might have someone more central but prob would be off mats or a simulator.
thanks!
I’d say it also depends what your current game is like and goals are. I’ve worked with someone at GolfTec because I like the data and the ability to have lessons pretty late (8pm). But I know the pros at my course (Royal Oaks) are also highly recommended just with differing strengths based on the type of golfer.
I’ll second the rec for David Pilsner. He was great to work with when I lived in Houston.
I echo @anotherballromes re: Memorial. Having hit next to the instructors during lessons, I personally find it criminal they’re taking money. The advice they’re giving beginners is comical and so off the mark. It may be just one of them, but not worth the risk. So my opinion: stay away from Memorial
I’m gonna reach out to David Pilsner. Thanks all!
This rain is outrageous
I’ll be in Houston next week and was hoping to slip a round in on Thursday. I hear it’s been a little wet lately? Any chance I get it in?
Depends on how the next week goes. If you have a couple of dry days before Thursday, you’re good. But it doesn’t look promising right now. Keep an eye on it though, weather changes on a dime around here
Anyone down for a round Saturday? Got nothing going on and all my usual golf buddies are busy.
I’ve got one spot open at Memorial on Saturday at 11:20 am. Playing with @anotherballromes and a non-refugee. Any takers?
I’m down if the spot is still open
It’s open, see you there!
Hey everyone, I’ll be moving to Houston for work sometime in September. Most likely the north east part and I was wondering if there are any nice practice areas and courses in the area just to start planning apartment hunting.
Define “north-east part” a little more for us. Are we talking inside the loop or do you mean Humble?
Hey man, welcome to h-town! When you say the Northeast that can mean a lot of different things depending on how far from the city center you are. Inside the loop, there’s not a lot (and it’s also not the best area). Out by the Beltway there’s Golf Club of Houston which is a great course and used to host the Houston Open. Further out than that is Cypresswood which has a couple of really good courses.
Some people say the other side of 45 by monkey tail is the new heights. But yes, north east is very broad, my first thought was kingwood.
If you’re gonna be in Kingwood or near by, you’ve got the whole Kingwood Country Club complex. Practice areas are pretty good, and they’ve got four courses which I’d say are pretty average. The Island Course does have one of the dumbest holes I’ve seen and was highlighted in a thread of the worst holes. Cypresswood is further south and closer to Bush Airport and is probably the better public course around here.
We’ve got one spot back on the market for Memorial at 11:20 tomorrow. Don’t all jump on it at once.
I’m in if it’s still open
