Will be playing HMR at 1:30 today.
We really got lucky with Laura. Thank you God. That is one powerful storm.
Thank you for the birthday wish.
Couple months ago I played Longwood and got partnered up with a resident of Longwood. Rumor has it, Longwood is in the process of selling the Pine Course (9-holes) to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and turning it into a large retention pond to help with flooding. Longwood will then put that money into the remaining 18-holes (Palmetto & Post Oak), proshop, range, amenities, etc.
Welcome to the Refuge man… gets a little rowdy in here, but we mostly get along
Played Southwyck with my brother this morning. What a weird course. Layout is decent, except for the fact that the first Par 3 you come to is 235yds. Who do they think is playing this course?
Conditions were rough.
Greens had just been punched, the fairways were a mess, and I lost a ball that rolled into the rough just off the fairway because it was so overgrown. And not overgrown in a way where it looked like they were purposely doing it, just overgrown like the fairway was full of weeds and they got a little heavier as you moved closer to the sides. I could have found the ball if I spent a few minutes looking for it but we had a two-some in two separate carts on our ass so I just moved on.
Yea, that course plays alot longer than the scorecard looks. Southwyck used to be a nicer course like 15 years ago and they obviously cant put the money into it to keep it where it should be.
From what I understand, it used to be UH’s home course before they moved to Golf Club of Houston. I wonder if the lack of upkeep drove UH away or if the UH move means they’re not getting the money to keep it up anymore.
Panorama is cool, a little closer towards Conroe.
Look at High Meadows Ranch
Unrelated to recent topics, we had to put the little angel I have as my avatar to sleep today.
She loved swatting at balls as I practiced putting and was oddly attracted to my club heads as I practiced in the living room. She thought they were great to rub her face on.
She lived in upper Kirby, the med center, briarmeadow and most recently Tanglewilde. The best little lady.
Played out at Houston Oaks recently. Said to be #2 in Texas. Not sure about that, but it’s an awesome track after the renovation.
Looking like Champions is going to allow patrons for the Women’s Open. I’d always planned on getting a couple of days worth of tix for me and my sons… think I might go ahead and pull the trigger.
Registered to volunteer for this, thankful that LPGA does not require you to pay to volunteer like rodeo or PGA. Figured if they cancel I will at least get to watch some live golf!
Nice! For some reason… being a volunteer never even crossed my mind. I’m with you though, I just want to see some live golf… (or live anything at this point).
Played a lot of rounds at Southwyck 10-15 years ago.
Always liked the course, a shame to hear it’s not in good shape these days.
Did the memorial park advance tee times go away because of COVID? Tried to book for around thanksgiving with pops and I can’t do more than 2 weeks out. How hard has it been to get a tee time lately?
Hey guys, new to the refuge and moving to Houston (River Oaks) next month. Does this group get together for rounds ever? I’d love to join in sometime if so.
Welcome to the Refuge. There’s a few of us here in Houston.
Been a long time since any of us have gotten together, but would be glad to get something on the schedule soon!
