Roll Call - GB & IRE

Yep, we’re doing a full 36 hole day at Crail. Will likely do 1-2 of the other courses at St. Andrews, maybe more if we get skunked on Old Course tee times.

I had a wonderful caddy I used for all of my rounds at the various St Andrews courses. I can dig out his card if you are interested. Knows every hole on every course.

Any feedback from the local crew on Glen Golf Club? Thinking about plugging that in for a morning round to play before Dunbar in the afternoon.

The Glen is a pleasant walk with a few interesting holes on the coastline.

I am going to be in London next week with my family. I am able to fit one round in 4th-10th. Where do y’all suggest I play nearish to London. My wife and two children (3 & 1) will be with me so preferably not more than 1 1/2-2 hrs from London and somewhere they could potentially explore the village while I am playing.

Drop the family off in Windsor (the castle and village are a little touristy but there’s lots to do especially for little ones) then you should go play Sunningdale, the Berkshire, St George’s Hill or Swinley Forest.

Will you have a car or public transport?

As of right now just public transport.

Thank you, Windsor is a good idea. That could definitely work.

It’s a pretty easy and frequent overground train out to Windsor from Paddington and from there you could take a black cab or Uber to the course.

Well my wife shot down Windsor, we went several years back and she wasn’t thrilled with the idea. I may just see if I can get an early tee time and make it back to Zone 1 by 12:30-13:00 and she can just hang around the neighborhood we are staying.

Also Sunningdale states visitors are welcome from April 12th- Oct. 28th. Is it worth emailing the club to ask if they can still accommodate a single visitor or do they normally stick to the rules?

Yeah, good point. No harm in enquiring as to whether they have times available.

The other obvious option is St George’s Hill (red and blue) - which is still open to visitors.

Yes the problem with St George’s Hill is it states guest play is for Wednesday’s Thursdays and Fridays. I could possibly play on the 5th but my flight arrives Thursday the 4th so that would be the only time. I would be delighted to play there though as it looks awesome.

A member of the RACDG here in London says he should be able to host you at West Hill (one of the three “W’s”, the others being Woking and Worplesdon.) it’s a short walk from Brookwood station. Sliding into your DMs in 3…2…1

The Glen is very fun and scenic. And windy.

How did you lock in Crail? I’m going at the end of April and Crail is the only course I was unable to book. Do I have to call instead of book online or did you use one of your many connections?

We’re playing St. Andrews (New, Jubilee, Castle, Eden, hopefully Old), Carnoustie, Elie, Crail.

Email bro…that’s it. Maybe my dates just happened to be open vs. the ones you were trying to book. I just sent an enquiry to the address listed on their site, with my natural charm taking it from there.

Great, thanks. There are many openings on the day we’re trying to play, the online booking just says visitors can’t book until 7 days in advance. I’ll try email instead.

Email did the trick, Crail is booked. Itinerary is set:

Sat: maybe find a jet lag round or perhaps just a pub
Sun: Crail Balcomie; possible 2nd round at Craighead or Anstruther
Mon: Carnoustie
Tue: St. Andrews Castle; Old/Eden (will do 36 one or two of the St. Andrews days)
Wed: St. Andrews New; Old/Eden
Thurs: St. Andrews Jubilee; Old/Eden
Fri: Elie
Sat: visit Edinburgh
Sun: home
