Drop me a DM next week abd I’ll see what’s going on those dates. Might be able to get you a sweet member guest deal somewhere nice.
Evening Folks,
Glasgow based member at Drumpellier GC. Try to get out and about to new courses when I can.
Playing Glasgow Gailes and Prestwick St Nics on Monday.
Anybody looking for a game, give us a shout.
Hey all, I’ve got a nice long layover in London on Friday 1 Oct to Saturday 2 October and would love to get a round of golf in. I’m free all day on Saturday and willing to travel. If its near a train I’m all in!
mega late to the party here but only recently discovered the NLU youtube channel during lockdown and been working my way through all their videos (especially addicted to tour sauce and strapped). discovered this place when browsing the website checking out their apparel etc. not much of a podcast listener i’m afraid as I prefer to listen to music whenever I have headphones on.
anyway, live in the North East of Scotland and been a member at Elgin GC since 2015 when I started to take golf abit more seriously as a hobby after playing casually with my dad’s second set throughout my 20’s. started at 24.5 and now down to 8.5 so certainly going in the right direction.
anyone is looking for a round at Elgin then feel free to give me a shout (or any of the other local courses).
Hi!
I’ll be traveling from New York to Ireland next month for about a week. I’m traveling with my girlfriend, so it’s not a golf trip, but I’m planning to play twice while I am there. I’m seeking any helpful feedback as it pertains to planning my two rounds.
I’ll be in Dublin and Galway, and will be able to play once in each region. Tentatively, my plan is to play Royal Dublin (Monday morning), and Connemara Championship Golf Links (Thursday morning). I plan to play with a caddy if available to get the most out of each round.
I picked these courses based on availability/proximity. Connemara is about as far as I can travel away from Galway while my girlfriend waits back at the hotel. It also looks like other popular destinations like Lahinch and Ballybunion will be closed next month.
Have I overlooked any great alternatives in these areas? Any other general advice for visiting/golfing in Dublin or Galway?
Thanks in advance!
Pat
Connemara is gonna be a TRIP in November! I admire your dedication, my friend.
Got a bunch of RACDG members around Dublin too if you fancy Portmarnock, The Island or Louth instead?
Popping in to source any suggestions for filling my itinerary for next April’s trip. Here’s what I have on tap so far, with Carnoustie being the only one I have yet to lock in. I’m hoping to get members through ThousandGreens to host at Carnoustie and North Berwick, since that will save us damn near $500 in greens fees. If that falls through, guess we’ll just pay the going rate.
Sunday, April 10th - Musselburgh Old Course
Monday, April 11th - 18 Holes AM - TBD, 18 Holes – Dunbar
Tuesday, April 12th - 18 Holes AM - TBD, 18 Holes PM – Kinghorn GC
Wednesday, April 13th- St. Andrews (Old Course?)
Thursday, April 14th - 18 Holes AM - Panmure Golf Club, 18 Holes PM – Carnoustie
Friday, April 15th - 36 Holes – Crail AM (Craighead Links), PM (Balcomie Links)
Saturday, April 16th - St. Andrews (Old Course?)
Sunday, April 17th - 18 Holes AM - TBD, 18 HolesPM – Elie
Monday, April 18th - 18 Holes PM – North Berwick
Tuesday, April 19th - 36 Holes – Muirfield
Any suggestions to fill in my TBD rounds on the 11th & 12th? I’ll be solo for those ones, probably staying near Aberlady. Have been pondering Gullane, Luffness, or booking another round at North Berwick.
Other thought I had is staying in/near Leven, then playing there and Lundin. Either way I have to zip over to the Edinburgh airport to pick up @OTPLefty the afternoon of the 12th and thinking we’ll hit Kinghorn on the way to St. Andrew’s so he can get a jetlag round in.
What say my Scot/Brit brethren?
DM’ing now…
You’ll get a million replies:
Gullane is a great option (possibly the best turf in Scotland)
Lundin / Leven are great courses. And you’ll not go far wrong doing 9-holes at Anstruther as well - short drive from Elie.
You’ve also got recently opened Dumbarnie you could consider (I’m a bigger fan of older links but plenty of big advocates for it).
Yeah, I’ve no doubt Dumbarnie (and also Kingsbarn) are both great courses but paying £200+ to play those while Lundin will give me a rate of £60 is absurd.
Also, I’m a huge fan of all things history and want to play the old links on my first go round
Totally agree. Lundin has one of the best stretch of opening holes in the region. Plus you get to play the original CB McDonald Leven template hole, which is Lundin’s 16.
That may have also been a contributing factor since I’m the preeminent Raynor skank around here….
If you fancy going “off links” I’m happy to host at Blairgowrie, which has 4 courses, one of which is a Dr Mackenzie design (well a few holes are).
I would divide this by region/area
Fife is one area: Old Course, New, Jubilee, Eden, Castle, Dumbarnie, Kingsbarns, Crail, Anstruther, Leven, Lundin.
Lothians is another area and within that Ivwould divide it between Gullane and North Berwick:
Gullane 1,2and 3. Archerfield x 2, Renaissance, Muirfield, Luffness, Kilspindie
North Berwick West Links , North Berwick East Links.
Dundee is a third area. Carnoustie x3, Panmure, Montifieth, Montrose
I would stay in each place and golf in each place. And then move.
Very kind, but I probably won’t make it that far inland. Im hoping to avoid as many trees as possible on this trip!
Consider Braid Hills over Musselburgh Old Links.
I could potentially host at my club (links) if you’re interested.
Thanks for the tip, just trying to figure out a decent spot for my jetlag round. I’ll shoot you a DM, would love to play with others on my solo days
I would choose any of Crail, Elie, Dumbarnie or Kingsbarns over either Leven or Lundin.
Already got Crail and Elie lined up. Not playing Dumbarnie or Kingsbarns because the prices are absurd compared to other courses.
Understood. I loved the Jubilee, the New and the Eden. Way less busy than the Old, but very interesting and challenging. Also the second course at Crail is very good and almost empty.
