I did some more research and the rental company has WD, emerald and regatta bays and Shalimar Pointe as the free to play courses.
That’s not bad
Calling for help from the Florida man (and women). Taking a trip to Fort Lauderdale for a buddy’s 30th with a bunch of the guys as well as sig-o’s. Need course recs please! And none of the girls golf, so restaurants and any other notable fine establishments would be welcomed. gracias
Go to the palm cafe if there’s any coffee fans in the group. It’s attached to General Provision
5 years is sick.
Check out the Mai Kai for drinks.
The Park and Palm Beach Par 3 are worth the drive up to Palm beach county, only like 45mins. Jacaranda is a decent course in the Lauderdale area. I don’t really know much in the way of restaurants don’t that way
Not a Florida resident but I’m down here currently on a small-ish trip.
I’ve played both courses at Jacaranda in the past and they’re solid. I just played North Palm Beach Country Club today and it was great.
It’s very “Nicklaus Design” with a shitload of dogleg right holes and a few ridiculous fairway bunkers. But at the same time, it’s the least claustrophobic Florida course I’ve ever played. It was hard and fun.
Hitting up The Park Monday morning
Let me know what you think of the park. I’m heading down at the beginning of march and I’m planning to play that and west palm par 3 so far. I need another course to play if you have suggestions from your trip.
Thanks!
I live a few blocks away from NPBCC and play the majority of my golf here. One of the best public options in Palm beach county.
I was really impressed. Pricey for sure but that was a completely solid golf experience and I would 100% go back.
New here- long time podcast listener. Live in Howey In The Hills, Central Florida. Just wondered if it’s worth paying the $90 nest membership? Thanks in advance.
Yes
Where are you guys staying in Ft Lauderdale? I live just on the north side of Downtown.
Heritage will be a solid dinner for that group. If you’re looking for a fun place for drinks, then I would point you towards The Shorley - it’s a floating barge near the beach with DJ and decent bar. Shooters is a good spot for a big group that wants the South Florida experience. Feel free to send me a message if you want to work through more details and recommendations. For golf I would go to Jacaranda, it’s the only place in that area that you can get a round in on a weekend in 4 hours, I’ve stopped playing anywhere else.
Also big time yes
We have a great roost down here.
Next question El Campeon or Bella Collina?
El Campeon, Bella is great but EC just has a few more outstanding holes. Can’t really go wrong with either.
I became a nest member, now what?
I always enjoy playing El Campeon because that means I’m going to the Yalaha Bakery afterwards!
Just walked off The Park and I have some thoughts
- Woah
Property is outrageous. Walking culture is incredible. Firm greens. Some incredible shot value.
-
I found some shots to be hella tough for seeing the course for the first time. A lot of “I wouldn’t have hit it over here if I knew this was there” stuff. We had one caddie in the group and he was young but Ok.
-
I can see why there’s some controversy with the price tag and caddie situation. The $240 price tag with a $140 minimum caddie fee feels like a lot. I think it’s up to you and your respective budgets but for me, that wasn’t a $400-ish golf experience.
-
I can also see why others have said that they’ve felt “pressured” to take caddies. I think we were asked at least 6-7 times before we teed off.
- We had a great day and there’s a ton of shots I’ll remember for a while. It was also somewhat hard to not think twice about tapping the credit card.
It’s a fantastic course, but it’s run like a resort destination masquerading as a local muni. The walking culture there is great for the winter, but in summer it’s a death march and if you want a cart it’s a minimum $30 extra
