Roll call Florida refugees

Thank you for the heads up!

I’m also partial to Emerald Bay, but it’s a little gimmicky in spots. Regatta Bay is nice, but I always play awful there. But it’s generally pretty tourist-y/resort-y down here. Not a lot of great tracks, but easy to have a good time with some friends no matter which course you’re on.

Rounds booked at Burnt Pine, Raven, and Kelly Plantation. Should I be swapping out something for one of those 3? Also give me your best seafood recs in or near Destin everyone… Thanks

Fine choices. To me, Raven is not as exciting as some other options - but even the “better” (imo) courses are still pretty generic and resort-y. Honestly, anything in that tier around here is gonna be enjoyable.

For food… plenty of good choices. I love Marina Cafe - a bit higher end, but they have a good happy hour. Or at least they used to… 2 toddlers don’t allow for much happy hour-ing these days. The Back Porch and Boshamp’s are always good choices. Honestly, most of the non-chain places near the harbor are pretty decent - Tailfin’s, Harbor Docks, Brotula’s, etc.

Hey folks, South Carolina golfer here looking at bringing a party of 7 down to the Jupiter/West Palm Beach area the weekend of April 11-14 for a bachelor party. Half of us are true sickos, half are just casual golfers. I wanted to get some critique on my plan and see if there were any alternatives or suggestions:

  • April 11th = Arrive mid-afternoon (we are driving) and play the Palm Beach Par 3
  • April 12th = Mid-morning play North Palm Country Club and then hit up The Park lighted par 3 in the evening
  • April 13th = Morning round at the Park. If anyone isn’t sick of swinging the club potentially go play the par 3 afterwards.

Any thoughts on what I’m missing? We are obviously not locals, is The Park worth the $280 they are charging?

Palm Beach Par 3 is fantastic, but greens can be fairly shaggy

NPBCC is awesome.

The Par 3 at the Park is fun, but no idea what they are charging for it right now. I played it back in November and it was like $50 for Florida rate

Would recommend to grab some drinks at the bar and play some games on the Himalayas putting course.

The Park itself is an awesome course, $280 is a lot for any round of golf. Since it opened I’ve viewed it as a destination/resort course masquerading as a muni. The course is like a diet/lite version of the streamsong courses. So if you view it as a destination course, the price is easier to swallow lol

Appreciate the feedback! This is helpful, and it seems like we are on the right path.

My personal vote is to play the Park. Young kids so my golf time is limited and I’d rather play the hot new course if we are going to be there anyway.

That’s Masters weekend. I’d reschedule. Lol

I was down there in January and paid the premium.

My thoughts on the course: You have to be a bit of a sicko to appreciate it, know it’s a Hanse. You don’t get the scale of a big resort course, but the architecture is apparent and there are a ton of fun shots. It was in great shape when I played and it’s very refreshing not worrying about water or a house playing golf in Florida.

Long story short, play the course. Watch some YouTube videos before going to build some anticipation (peter finch has a decent one you can see the whole course) and enjoy it with your buddies.

Ha! Our airbnb has a massive outdoor TV setup by the pool. After golf we will all be booking it back. Plenty of soft piano music and bird chirping sounds will be played over those speakers.

This is awesome. Feels right up my alley, and it seems to be a shame to miss it when we are down there. Thanks for your perspective!

@JoshK Would recommend skimming through The Park thread for insight on the blind shots and which holes require a certain strategy for where to aim and where to not miss

Another teacher and myself are taking a group of students to the Orlando area January 6-10th next year. We will have a group of 8-12 people total. Are there any connections to help with possible tee times? What are some must see courses or any courses to really avoid? We are considering trying to do a day to drive and see Cabot Citrus, Streamsong, or The Park if we could secure some times without having to break the bank.

Any other general insights or help is greatly appreciated. I took a group to Southern Pines/Pinehurst a few years ago and it was amazing.

Hi Floridians. We’re making a trek down towards Destin/PCB next week staying in Inlet beach. Shortlist so far is Windswept Dunes & Kelly Plantation (if I can stomach the Destin traffic), maybe one other. Any thoughts? Any refugees in that area who would want to meet up?

Hey guys.

English guy here and vacationing in Florida this year (late August) and was wondering if you know of any hidden gems around the orlando/kissimmee area. I’ve spent a considerable amount of time over there and done the usuals. However, just want to know what else is out there in this area, if you would be so kind? Once played Victoria Hills, which was amazing back in the day! Thank you in advance!

Victoria Hills is a shithole now, so I would stay away.

Southern Dunes
OCN
Shingle Creek
Eagle Creek

Are a handful of places I can recommend.

If you’re willing to drive to Victoria Hills from Kissimmee you’ve got a large radius to work with. In addition to what @Big_RanDeer mentioned, consider Mission Inn Resort, Deer Island, or the recently renovated Clermont National (fka Sanctuary Ridge). When it’s in good shape Harmony Golf Preserve is a fun Johnny Miller design.
