Probably won’t be able to deliver Isleworth or Bay Hill, but we’ll figure something out.
I ended up calling and snagging a time at Champions Gate early Saturday. If anyone is interested in pegging it then or on Sunday @me.
ps- this weather doesn’t suck for Disney.
Hello all! On @golf4miami 's suggestion, posting this here instead of the Travel section.
Looking for public golf recommendations in/around Satellite Beach, FL. A buddy of mine has access to a condo down there so we’re going to try and get some rounds in during along weekend in April. Thanks in advance!
@Jonny here’s links to some prior posts for public golf on the Space Coast:
The trio of Viera East, Baytree, and Duran are likely your closest options. There’s a course on the Patrick Space Force base, but you need to apply for a pass to get access on the base. I also can’t speak to Cocoa Beach Muni or Savannahs in Merritt Island. Don’t bother with Turtle Creek.
If you’re coming all the way from Chicago, I’d recommend splurging on at least one round in the hour +/- radius of you to Daytona (LPGA Int’l), Port St. Lucie (PGA Club Wanamaker or Dye), or Orlando (Grand Cypress Links).
Here’s the sign they should have right outside the place:
@Jonny, as @LiveAdam said, the Space Coast isn’t really known for the quality of its courses. Duran is fine.
I’ll be teeing it up there tomorrow. Great Florida golf course.
Of all the places we’ve played as a roost, I’d like to live close to that one the most. Great clubhouse, amazing practice facility, that pitch & putt course. Dang.
It’ll be interesting to see what PGAoA does with the property as they move to Frisco, TX. Membership there is strong, so it’s tough to get a prime tee time.
Let’s sell NFTs and make it NLU/SoOJ global headquarters
I don’t see why they don’t just license the brand to them. Keep those checks coming in and nothing changes at the resort.
I haven’t played either Cocoa or Savannahs in close to a decade but neither was remarkable. Cocoa has a shit load of water in play. And hard agree with not playing turtle creek unless you really like hitting trees.
Duran and Viera East would be my votes. Viera just finished some construction with new drainage according to my folks who live off the 9th hole. But it didn’t sound major. The par 3 at Duran is a nice plus too.
A lot of it was rebuilding the bulkheads around the stormwater ponds. They had an opportunity to fix the pitch on the right side of the 7th green but kept it as is. Depraved, unpinnable stuff.
Why do that when you could keep the natural death slope into a shallow lake with a non zero number of alligators in it.
Thank you, all for the recommendations! Going to dig in this afternoon after work and create a game plan based on all of this and will report back.
Appreciate the love, definitely glad I lined that one up.
Same @PGA_ALLTHEWAY, same.
Thank you all again for the advice! Currently looking like;
Friday - Baytree and Duran/Sandridge Dunes (36)
Saturday - PGA Wanamaker + PGA Dye (or a par 3 course - we might be fried from 54 in 30ish hours). Also can you really only book PGA 2 days out? Seems like we may need a backup
Seriously, really digging the refuge and appreciate the insights folks. Space Coast might not be to-die-for but it certainly beats Chicago golf in April
Members get 14 days, but us plebeians have to call the moment their reservation call center opens on that 2nd day. If you’re only playing 18 at PGA I’d honestly recommend the Dye (will be a contrarion take here)
Grand Cypress Links Course in Orlando would be my recommendation for a backup round for Saturday, cancellation policy should accommodate if you get PGA Club.
Day 1 I recommend either sticking to the Viera area or go play all 36 at Sandridge.
Gonna be down in the Destin area at the start of April. Anyone have any recommendations? Worth taking my clubs along?
Fat, pale and haven’t swung a club in 3 months. Visiting some buddies in Boynton Beach March 24-26. They are not golfers. I’ll have Friday morning to golf while my friend works. Where would be a good place to; rent clubs, hit the range, play 18? Vibe > conditions
If you’re looking for vibes, can’t beat Palm Beach National. We played a Roost event there last weekend, place is great. Music blasting on the range (pictured below), which has TopTracer at each bay. Like LIV opened a public course. Round was about $100, course conditions were great for this time of year. Bonus if you love dogleg rights
