Roll Call: Eastern PA/ South NJ

That place is pure

Been dying to play Hidden Creek, would love to be a part of that

Hidden Creek is an absolute gem. Ironically I’m wearing one of their logo polo tshirts right now haha.

I played there last September on a foursome we bought at a charity auction. The greens were so pure, the mens locker room was amazing, and the service was top notch even though everyone knew we weren’t members.

If you ever get the chance to play there, make sure you take advantage of it! I never found the creek, i was guess thats where the name came from ha.

How’s everyone doing tonight? First time here, member at Trenton Country Club living in Bucks County PA. Looking forward to getting involved. Expecting my first kid in the coming weeks so curious who here has worked out a nice schedule to keep their addiction going! Hoping to work in some weekday morning rounds in to the schedule.

hidden creeks locker room is pretty much the best locker room i can imagine. too perfect

Can anyone here give a good summary of Princeton golf? Both budget, expensive, and private?

Hows Springdale? What about Bunker Hill? Any others that are particularly noteworthy?

Hey everyone! Excited to be joining The Refuge and to interact with fellow PA/NJ golfers. I just joined Old York Road Country Club, currently reside in Conshohocken, and work in Exton.

Hoping to get more involved with GAP in 2020!

Played there back in the fall. solid track. Currently a member at Philmont. Hopeful that everything gets back on track there.

Princeton Area Public:

You’ll need a Mercer County Card for the best deals but have to be a Mercer County resident to get one.

Of the Mercer County Muni Courses my ranking would be

  1. Mercer Oaks East: gets the win as its a good layout “linksy” and is the lesser played of the two so the rounds go quicker. When the wind picks up course can get tough as it has no trees until the idiotic 17th which doesn’t fit in with the rest of the course
  2. Mercer Oaks West: Most would probably argue that they like this more but this parkland design comes in second for me as its always crowded on weekend mornings and add that to the fact that they lost their fairways last year not a good look.
2a. Mercer Oaks range is okay, shuts down early on Wednesdays and grass part isnt always open and if it is not much grass
  3. Mountain View: Interesting little course that starts with back to back Par 5s that are reachable. Pace of play is okay and can get crowded
  4. Princeton “Country Club”: A very tight tight piece of property with horrible pace of play avoid at all costs if you can.

Other Publics
Cranberry: Tighter property old school design, okay layout, pace of play not bad, has golf boards
Meadows at Middlesex: not taken care of at all and they charge way to much for it. Avoid this place
Bunker Hill: Might as well be in New Brunswick, good price and pace of play, conditioning is not the best but also not the worst. Would rather go to Neshanic or Heron Glen to play though if I’m driving that distance from Princeton but Bunker Hill is cheaper than those two alternatives

Privates you have: Springdale (Princeton University Course & William Flynn design) , Bedens Brook (Dick Wilson design), Cobblestone Creek (Bobby Weed design), TPC Jasna Polana (Gary Player design), Cherry Valley, etc.
@wideright , @HoselAdjacent, and I are at Trenton Country Club which is a Golden Age A.W. Tillinghast designed course that I could highly recommend.

Feel free to reach out to me for more info on any of the privates

We still have room in the GAP Architect Series if you’re interested.

Still plenty of room in the GAP Architect Series if anybody is interested.

Man, series looks great, but some of the dates don’t work for me, and I don’t think my better half would be impressed with a $240 per round addition.

Wish I could just play Lancaster!

Same here. Lancaster is super high on my list of courses i’d love to play someday. Really hoping for a single day GAP event there in the future.

You could always split this with a buddy and divide up who goes to each event

If this doesn’t sellout we will open up single day spots at these but will probably charge a premium.

Nice review. I used to work in Princeton area and agree with your ranking of the Mercer munis. I would highly recommend Heron Glen (Huntderon County), Neshanic(Somerset County) and Makefield Highlands (Yardley, PA) with the first two being a ~30 minute drive and the latter being 20 minutes at most. I live in Northern NJ now and my parents and friends are in Bucks County so end up meeting at Heron Glen or Neshanic a bit and still consider Highlands my home course

Just moved to Ewing from Flemington and @Craigstands nailed those breakdowns. For my two cents…Cherry Valley and TPC Jasna low key stink. Would rather play Neshanic or Heron Glenn any day of the week.
