Roll Call: East Tennessee

Nob North in Dalton, the Course at Sewanee, and Brainerd are always in my rotation.

Any intel on Creeks Bend in Hixson? Would be close to where I’m living and membership looks real good price wise

I play there frequently with a friend who belongs. It’s pretty scruffy for a private club but I always enjoy playing there. Good greens. Plenty of variety of shots to face. Tough finishing stretch. The conditions overall are muni-like but as you said the price is right. That land floods a few times every year and there will be weeks when the front nine is unplayable due to standing water.

Seems that there are a few of you on here that are members at Holston. I’m looking at joining and met with them today. Would love to hear some perspective and hopefully meet up to play a round soon!

There’s too many members now and it is getting increasingly difficult to get a tee time.

Otherwise it is great.

Would be curious to see if that eases now that some of the CoVID phenomenon is waining. How many days are you typically having to book in advance?

It’s gotten worse not better since Covid has eased.

For the weekday you can book seven days in advance. For weekends you can book the Wednesday prior. Better be ok when the tee times open or you will be late in the day. It’s too much like trying to book a time at a public course.

Hello…this thing on?

There’s a fundraiser event at Sweetens Cove on Monday, May 1st that I want to let everyone know about. It’s a two person team format. includes all day golf, food, drinks, several contests with great prizes, custom shirt, towel, and other swag, live music at dark…we’ll have the course to ourselves from sun up to sundown.

The fundraiser benefits River & Rail Theatre Company here in Knoxville.

There are several team spots left to fill. Here’s a link for 50% team registration: Team Registration (R&R Supporter Discount) — Players Gonna Play.

Sign up so I have more teams to beat.

This seems awesome, and I wish I’d known earlier. I’m playing a tournament at Green Meadow this weekend or I’d be looking hard at coming to it.

Completely unrelated to anything ETN based, but I’m wanting a headcover for my Scotty Phantom 7.5 and didn’t know if the head covers in the NLU pro shop fit.

Anybody have any experience before I make the purchase?

Going to have about 10 guys in town for a weekend in Chattanooga towards the end of the month . Looking for some stuff for us to do not golf related. Any locals have suggestions?

Sure, glad to help. Are you just looking for places to eat/drink or actual activities?

If you’re here over a weekend there will be free concerts on both Friday and Saturday night. Friday is Nightfall at Miller Plaza which is right downtown. Music, food trucks, etc. Saturday night will be Riverfront Nights which is the same kind of deal but down on the river near the TN Aquarium.

The area around Market and Main Street is good for bar hopping with a big variety of restaurants. Southside Social is a typical bowling/cornhole bars, sort of an indoor/outdoor place.

There’s all sort of other stuff…hiking, paddle boarding, Civil War historical sites. Just depends what you’re after.

Played at Sweeten’s today. Two friends from Nashville and another guy from Chattanooga.

We had one rain shower come through that lasted maybe three holes. Otherwise it was sunny and hot with a mild breeze most of the day.

We got in 36 holes and it was plenty for us. There were still a bunch of groups out on the course when we left which was probably around 5pm. That’s when the few groups who do stick around start playing alternate routings and it can get a bit nuts.

The pro has his pre-round marching orders down to a science and it really makes the day go more smoothly than it might otherwise. The basic gist is to stay flexible, prioritize fun, respect the property and not be uptight about anything. If you want to play an eight-some, do it. If you’re behind an eight-some and don’t want to be, just go around them.

We caught up to one group of six guys from Dayton, OH who were staying in the Nest. One guy had an ace on #4 and another of them had one on #9. The pro came out before he left with flags for them to commemorate their feats. They were having a big time. Good players too.

We asked about late fall day pass availability and they’re sold out through the end of ‘23. :frowning:

Definitely looking to booze it up a little. We are staying off the river so don’t need any extra water activities. Though about trying to book a booze cruise.

I was thinking a bar crawl starting at the concert and go from there. Any must go to bars?

State of Confusion is one to hit on Main Street. Clyde’s on Main is super popular too. The Station Street area by the Choo Choo has some of the younger/louder clubs.

Main Street (Southside area) is what you’re looking for for drinks. Lots of great options whether you’re looking to post up in one bar or do some hopping. Some of my favorites are Boneyard, Exile (very divey, usually live music at nights), Oddstory (best brewery in the city IMO with a huge indoor/outdoor area), Flying Squirrel (great cocktails and solid beer selection, also very good shareable food), Pax Breu Ruim (good local hang with good craft beer selection and darts).

Let me know if you want food recommendations. Most of the above also have really solid food.

I’m playing a state am Q at Cherokee in a few weeks… I’ve never played it and from what I can read it’s quirky. Can someone give me a detailed hole by hole description on how to play each hole, where not to hit it, greens to not short side yourself on etc. basically give me the “Charles Minor Rundown.”

I’m not overly long but I’m long enough where I know I’ll have to club down off the tee some and that’s ok. But some holes where I should send it would Be good to know too.

Thanks!
