Roll Call: East Tennessee

big fan of Harrison Bay as well. Really can’t go wrong there.

Haven’t played the others.

Harrison Bay will almost certainly be cart path only. That’s how they roll pretty much all winter long. I normally end up walking instead.

Tim’s Ford is a great choice between Chatt and Nashville. It’s a bit hard to get to compared to Sweeten’s or Sewanee but worth the detour.

I can live with that criticism of McLemore, though the same comment pretty much perfectly applies to OTF in my opinion.

You’re absolutely right! The holes along the River are realty really good and maybe 1-2 others. The rest, not so good in my opinion. Here’s the best part, if you love it - play it and enjoy your time. If you don’t, that’s ok as well - just don’t tell anyone they’re wrong about what they like when it comes to courses.

Based on research I think the presidents > generals

Are there any members of Lookout on here? I have a question for you.

I have no direct knowledge of the club’s current state. Having played there several times I can say I’d never want to be a member there. The renovation looks pretty amazing though.

Why?

It’s a very insular club made up of people who live within two miles of the parking lot whose grandmothers all played bridge together. Not my scene, to say the least.

I think I would join Lookout even if they made me sign a contract saying I couldn’t speak to anyone and could only use the Port-a-john out back, but I’ve never been, and have only the socials to assume how the course is to play.

I’ve played Lookout once with a member, and once in a state tournament held there.

The course is so, so great. If a Raynor on the side of a mountain doesn’t make it move a little bit, I’m not sure what else I can do for you. The changes also look excellent.

I haven’t had much experience with the membership, so I can’t speak to that. The member who hosted me was nice though!

Lookout is a special place. Nothing but great things to say about it and the way its members treated us.

Good to hear my experiences there don’t seem to be typical. Living in this area my entire life definitely colors my view.

Fwiw, you’re not alone. I grew up playing HS golf up there and havent been back since. I think the renovation will draw me back up there but its simply not my cup of tea.

Hi - I have a few extra passes for Sweetens On Saturday April 1 and Sunday April 2 as some of my group is unable to play - we have some guys heading towards Augusta later in the week but will be staying at the e9.

Moving to Chattanooga in a few weeks, any clubs up that are worth looking to join? Don’t really care for any country club amenities besides golf

If I was going to join one I’d probably join Black Creek. Good course and membership, practice facilities are nice as well.

Same comments apply to Council Fire. It comes down to which end of town you’ll be living in.

Almost every local club I’m aware of is on a waiting list right now. They all filled up during the pandemic.

Which means if you can hold out and wait until next year, a possible recession might clear out the waiting list and drop the initiation.

Totally agree. The monthly dues aren’t too bad but the current initation fees are a little rich since I don’t know how long I’ll be staying in Chattanooga beyond a year or 2

In that case, favorite public courses in the area besides sweetens? Played Bear Trace at Harrison and enjoyed it a few months ago. Also if anybody is ever looking for a game in the area this summer let me know
