Played Island Pointe back in November and the course was fine. Was actually hoping to play it in a couple of weeks so I’ll let you know if I make it back out there. I played the River course at Sevierville last August. Fun course but it’s lack of shade in August…be sure to bring plenty of water.
I’m a member at Sevierville, so hit me up if you’re looking for a playing partner!
Thanks! I’ll look into it a little more - played there twice when it was still known as River Islands. Some cool holes out there.
Anyone playing in Knox Sunday Morning?
I’ve got a solo tee time at 940 @ Deadhorse. You’re more than welcome to join me.
Moving to Knoxville in October (we hope, have to find a house). We lived there from 06-08, looking forward to some more “winter” golf and new courses. My job is pretty flexible during the week too and that is when I like to play.
Edit to say if there are any private suggestions, I would love to hear them. I’ve been part of a really fun one here in Louisville for about 5 years and that’s going to be one of the things that I will definitely miss.
Editing again to ask for recommendations on where to live. We were in Powell previously and liked it. Have a realtor looking and sending us info as well.
Welcome (when you get here). I can only suggest west Knoxville, due to that’s where I live. Depends on your situation (married, kids, bachelor, etc.) I’m in Rocky Hill area and only downside is there isn’t a course super close to the house. As for private clubs, depends on price range and what you want. Holston Hills, Cherokee, Fox Den, Gettysvue, Green Meadow, and Oak Ridge are the one’s I’d look at. Depending on where you live, and price range, hopefully there is something close enough to make work.
Thanks! 2 kids under 6, Powell seems like the safest choice right now. Are the areas I should just completely stay away from??
Nothing wrong with Powell. Nowhere to really avoid per say. West Knox and Farragut are gonna be the most expensive in the current market. Powell has a decent school system, so if you know the area, then it’s probably an easy starting point. Knoxville is growing, so schools are going to continually realign as more land gets developed and they have to build more schools.
Thanks man, it seems like it’s exactly how I remember it, but it’s growing more rapidly than it was back in 2006. Happy we are moving back at this time.
Good day to all my East TN folks, as you could tell from my handle, that’s my real name and I’m the assistant superintendent at Holston Hills. I’ve been here since April of ‘18 honing my craft and building my resume to take my next step in my career. After 4 unreal years here I’ve secured another assistant position at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, NY. Big move but if I’m going after majors then that’s what I gotta do. Got the ‘23 PGA and ‘27 US Am to look forward to. @Soly hit me up if you all need a sherpa to do anything before those events.
Congrats! That’s awesome and I know you will do great up there, majors and everything else!
Huge move, congrats!
Playing Lookout Mountain Club on September 23 at 2pm. Was a foursome I bought through a charity. Have 3 spots open if anyone is interested. $175 includes cart
Anybody played Blackthorn Club? A buddy of mine just joined there and curious to hear about it.
The course at the Blackthorn Club is usually well-conditioned, but it isn’t a great course architecturally.
I had a buddy who wanted to join there, and he decided on Johnson City Country Club instead.
I’ve played Blackthorn many times. In my opinion, the architecture leaves a lot to be desired. It has always been in great condition when I’ve been there, but there are some truly goofy holes.
Y’all know if they have a good member guest? For truly research puposes…
Love it, welcome back!
Hit us up when you arrive and we’ll get after it some day. I’m down at green meadow, happy to show you around.
Whooooaaaaaaa. Congrats man!
I would assume they have an excellent member-guest. No firsthand experience.
One thing of note, they are the only private club in the area that doesn’t allow unaccompanied guest play. We have a top 200 course and a best in state course in the area, and they both allow unaccompanied guest play.
