Very similar vibes
Agree with your whole take on Mistwood but this especially. Pretty hard to square the finishing stretch of that course (bad) with the opening stretch (good). The second hole in particular is maybe my favorite hole anywhere in the Chicago area
Hey All - moving from St Louis to Chicago for work in a few weeks. We’ll be living in Bucktown/Logan square area.
Wanted to see if y’all had any advice or links to posts on playing golf while living in the city - ranges, courses, etc. My bad if I missed it in the OP.
We’ll have a car so getting around won’t be an issue.
It always is fun to hit the tee shot it into those bunkers short of the green on 2 and then follow that up by hitting the next tee shot right into the centerline bunker on 3. At least that’s my usual unintended strategy
Same - where that hole leans into the whole Scotland theme with the blind tee shot and pot bunkering, the Kelpie holes do the opposite by throwing a bunch of greens around a giant man made pond.
My usual move is to just play nine holes at Mistwood, you get to use the practice center and its only 40 dollars walking in the afternoon on weekdays. That way you can play the front and just avoid Kelpie’s corner.
Big Strawberry Creek fan here. I checked on memberships in 2020 and I want to say it was $6,100 or $6,700. If I lived 15 minutes closer, it would be a slam dunk in my opinion.
Spot on. My host said it was just under $7k initiation, $536 dues. Might be a little higher post Covid.
I’ll be moving 15 minutes from there in less than a month…this is great information to know

the dealer you need
I think we all know I need another dealer
First off, welcome to the city.
Getting out of the city in the morning will not prove to be too difficult, coming back into the city early afternoon is where you will run into the most issues. Based on your neighborhood your proximity to the freeway shouldn’t be too bad. Course options are lacking in the city, your closest course will by Sydney on the lake, but that can easily turn into a 3 hour 9 hole round on the weekends.
There is now a 5 iron location in Lincoln park with free parking, would really consider a membership there in the winter or summer if you like sim golf. Otherwise the only range I am aware of is at diversey harbor, it’s not perfect but can get the job done.
If you need any more specific recs feel free to DM me, I live in river north but have spend a decent amount of time in your new area.

FTFY
for real - if ever headed in to 5i lincoln park, feel free to jump into my dm’s. I’ll be part time soon, but for now I’m there quite often. An easy drive from the west neighborhoods as we are in the clybourn corridor.
and free parking which is clutch! I’ll be there a ton during the winter
This is the right answer. I’ll allow Two Women in the rotation as well. And in the fall, mix it up with some Staghorn.
the free parking has definitely tipped the scale in terms of visit numbers vs. the loop & possibly the river north location as well.
just a heads up to be careful though- the landlord is intense on that parking lot. If you happen to leave the plaza even for a half second, your car can get towed. has become mean spirited entertainment for the staff as shoppers return from Lululemon with their vehicle nowhere in sight
They should be able to jog home with all their sports apparel!
