You missed what was probably my first eagle in five years. Your loss.
Why you gotta rub salt in the wound like that brah?!? Glad y’all had a great day.
This is on my list too… it’s on the way to my in-laws and drive thru that area a lot. It also looks like a nice fitting situation, which might be my own x-mas gift this fall. Has anyone been there for a fitting?
Does anyone want to play Phillips Park at 6:10am tomorrow? Haven’t booked but there are 4 open spots
Never mind - already scooped up
I would if I wasn’t booked elsewhere…But if anyone has the chance to play tomorrow at Phillips, do it. Highly recommended track.
Bob’s is the truth!! Favorite local pizza place for me as well!
Two spots open for 6:10am tomorrow (Sunday) at Downers Grove (nine holes).
I’m down to get up at the crack of dawn, I need redemption from how I played last time at seven bridges! Plus is there any better day than to get in 9 holes before settling on the couch to see if Rory can pull it off at the Old Course. You still have open spots? Need to book online?
Sorry but I released the twosome and someone has booked it…
Played there yesterday, it was indeed nice. Wish i had more time to use the range and short game area.
The lol part for me was that they give you a $14 discount for walking, but charge $10 to rent a push cart.
Sorry I missed this! Been a hectic weekend outside of The Open. Hope you hit them well!
Just got my Saturday freed up, anyone need a 4th or looking for a round this weekend?
I was very impressed with the whole Mistwood facility. Practice range, chipping green, putting green were fantastic…had a great reuben in the tavern…even the locker rooms were top form.
The course itself was fun and in awesome shape. Some of the green complexes are brutal, but almost every hole had a safe line and an aggressive line to pick from off the tee. Felt like I hit it pretty well, but if I missed the green I had no chance at an up and down. Made more birdies than normal but more doubles, too. I think it would be an awesome 2 v 2 match play course, more than just trying to grind out a stroke play number out there.
The one thing I could do without is the “Public Course, Private Experience” - almost 75% of the tee sheet are members and I actually got bumped down two tee times so that two member groups could get out ahead of me and the rest of my all public tee time. While we were out there, saw a few 6- and 8-somes and a few people just driving around us and skipping holes. Totally understand they are the “members” but I did pay $100 to play there and would prefer to not be treated like some sort of second class citizen for that price.
I’d probably go back because the actual golf was that fun and the facilities were tremendous for practice, but I’m not exactly buzzing on the rest of the experience.
I really like Mistwood. It’s probably my favorite of the $100+ green fee group due to the combination of good golf, good pace of play, and good conditions. The “Kelpie’s Corner” holes are kind of dumb but I like the rest of the course.
However, this is definitely some bullshit:
Either allow public play in those tee times or do not. With what they charge that is completely unacceptable. Like I said, I like the course a lot but that would definitely make me not want to come back.
I did not have the same experience as you re. the membership, but I started at 6:50 AM (third group out I think?) so that probably helped.
Definitely agreed on the quality of the course, would go back. I’m with @Wyclef that the “Kelpie’s Corner” holes are weird but would not say it detracted from the round (two putt birdie on 15 may or may not have softened my opinion of that hole)
If/when I do go back I will probably make more time before and after the round. Rolled up with just enough time to hit a few balls, and left immediately after for lunch with the GF, so did not fully enjoy the facility.
Definitely the type of place to show up an hour early and stay to have lunch and a pint after. Willing to write off my experience as a one-time thing and get back out there.
Giving a write up here because it’s Monday and I don’t feel like working.
Got an invite to play The Club at Strawberry Creek yesterday. The course is in Kenosha just down the street from the Brat Stop.
Built in the mid-2000s on an adjacent portion of the local strawberry farm. it fell upon hard times during the recession but was bought by a family that turned it around to what it is now. It’s largely a family club, with what I’m told are reasonable dues. It’s a whole subdivision with a pool, tennis, and some homes (Original plan was to have a lot more homes, which would change a lot of sightlines on the course).
We played the blue/gold hybrid tees which netted out around 6,400. There’s a lot of room to miss off the tee on most holes, but the approach shots are tricky. There are bail out areas, but often require short game precision back up a slope. The greens were lighting fast, and had some great movement within them. A lot of great spines running across certain portions. The course felt “big” without being long.
The par 5 14th was probably my favorite hole, with a somewhat split fairway, with the left side have a nice slope for drives to land on top and roll down (we were into the wind, so just made it far enough that we couldn’t catch the slope). the short par 4s 6th and 17th were excellent risk/reward holes that we played upwind, but down wind likely reachable with a strong 3 wood or driver.
Really a fun course to play, and has the length and short game to challenge low caps, while being playable and less penal from shorter tees.
If you have a chance to get up and play, highly recommended. I told CDGA has openings which I would jump on in a heartbeat. They also have breakfast burritos at the turn, which I would join just to have those. It’s Wisconsin, so of course curds were available as well.
Hole #2, one of the few holes with some housing
Drivable par 4 #17 (Lot of room over the left bunker where I put my drive, which funnels to the front-left side of the green)
#18 with clubhouse. Avoid the centerline pot bunker at all costs. I ended up right side of the fairway for a 130yd downwind pitch into a front pin position.
Love the comments shitting on him for hitting a 9 iron from 125. God forbid wind or elevation changes exist.
Imagine shitting on someone for hitting…the right club? Like the perfectly correct club? To the point that it went into the hole from a great distance.
