Roll Call “Chicago” (Part 2)

Just popping in to say that I sometimes find myself thinking, ‘Damn, Chicago is definitely the best Roll Call/Roost.’ I come to snoop and see a thread of glorious softcore water tower porn, and I say, ‘Yep, I was right.’

Good info. Next up in the tour of the South/SW side muni tracks (And sports adjacent water towers) if I remember:

Meadows of Blue Island
Fountain Hills
Stony Creek
Palos Hills
Hickory Hills

Hope all is well in the great North Woods!

Have played here a couple of times. An incredibly unremarkable golf course. First two holes are dumb. As I recall, they have a double dog-leg par 5 that is also dumb. Nearly had a fatality in our group on the 14th tee box from a wayward shot on the par 3 13th.

Agree! The thing I remember most about there was they had tiny flags. Definitely some dumb golf holes, but they seem to stay open nearly year round. @Pinehurts it’s a track I say is best kept for scratching the winter itch when few other places are open.

Hard pass. Played there a couple years ago and it was a mess. They took the single cut thought process from Diamond Springs, but everything was the length of the fairway including the greens.

@rmbartell can attest

I’m most interested in Stony Creek out of these 3. Just perusing their site…Eight Par 3s, nine par 4s, and one par 5. $16 walking for 18.

Also, huge fan of browsing and saving public google images from random courses.

I like the idea of strategically aiming at cart paths that run right up the middle of the fairway. Truly bold, cutting edge design.

I also played there a couple years ago and would agree. Some of the greens were totally dead. However I did see recently on Twitter some people saying it got new ownership and is night and day to the past couple years, which has me wondering if it’s worth another spin at some point. Probably waiting til at least next year, but I know there is some L&M architecture out there.

Indeed. We once played there with snow and ice still on a few of the greens.

Got the early green light to play some golf on 10/1 in the morning before some afternoon commitments. Anyone interested in some fall golf dew sweeping?

I booked 2 spots at 7:20am on 10/1 at Ravisloe if anyone would like to join @djheadley and myself. 50$ to walk…2 spots left online.

Played many times and an Advocate Christ nurses scramble there. Fine for when I couldn’t get tees elsewhere, 1 also always screws me and 2 is tight, then eases.
Last I knew, the pro came from Lost Marsh.

Hey all - due to work, I can no longer play at the Refuge event this Saturday at Highland Woods. I am scheduled for the 11:30am tee time.

First person who messages me can have my spot!

@McDuffin may need an alternate to take his place in the scramble on Saturday. 11am start time. Please let him and me know if you’re interested.

There’s a refuge event this Sunday? And a scramble?

Never anything scheduled for Sunday. Scramble is Saturday at Highland Woods.
