@jsteel11 we have no shortage of course opinions. Will you be staying downtown? Will you have a car?

I believe downtown and yes i will have a car
How far from downtown are you willing to drive, and what is your leave the hotel - return to the hotel window?
I’m thinking an hour drive is fine. moring leave afternoon return. Still waiting on hotel deets and conference loc.
We (the 2CGC) generally like:
Highlands of Elgin
Shepherds Crook
Cog Hill #2
If you want your face kicked in by the most famous public course here, play Cog Hill #4 Dubsdread.
Coyote run is great bang for buck- nothing to write home about but a fun, quintessential American parkland design.
Mistwood advertises itself as “Scottish” but it’s not really. It’s in great shape but it’s expensive and the last 5 holes are pretty inane.
If you want quirk, Canal Shores in Evanston is a short course that just opened 12 holes for preview after a redesign. It’s very fun, but if you’re looking for a full 18 championship layout, this isn’t it. It might be our most unique offering though, weaving through neighborhoods (but not in a “we built this course to sell houses” sort of way) and crossing the canal with a 65-yard putting only hole that points directly toward the Bahai temple.
I’d actively avoid Ruffled Feathers, Harborside, Ravisloe, Lost Marsh, and Mount Prospect.
Actively avoid MPGC? I see @BadBrad has another acolyte
I don’t mind it, but I’m not sending a visitor to our fair city there to get stuck in the 5 hour slog only to be rewarded with #17 purporting itself to be a road hole.
Might have a bias since I’m currently on the course but Sunset Valley is a good option
You hit a fade, so yeah. As a drawer (hooker. Ah shoot, bonk) of the golf ball, I don’t love it.
Have you considered playing lefty
Sunset Valley is also one of the easiest to get to/get back from courses from the city.
Sunset Valley, Preserve at Oak Meadows, Cog Hill #2 would be my recs that you can get to within an hour from the city in typical traffic
If im out there, and its my 1st visit to the area, i feel cog hill is almost a must. I can add it to my list of tour/major course if played. I took a look at Elgin, and that course looks awesome. thanks for all the recs, i knew i’d find answers in the refuge
Sunset Valley sucks. All my homies hate Sunset Valley. Tell all your friends
Glencoe GC is a very solid option imo, $50 walking on weekend mornings!
Huh???
I would not actively avoid Ravisloe. While not without issues- i.e. new tree plantings, and the stupid tee on #12, it remains one of the best public layouts in the area.
Yeah I would not actively avoid Harborside, MP or Ravi.
I’d probably recommend all three tbh
I’d avoid Sunset Valley.
