Roll Call “Chicago” (Part 2)

@kmcswain dont you have some insider info on the ravines ghost holes?

I’d have to call my buddy for a refresher course, but if memory serves there are 21 or 22 holes in total out on ravines. One or two of the current ravine holes used to be on dubs, believe it’s 5 and one of the two par threes over in the corner there behind three green

Seems to be worth the price. I’m originally from Central Illinois so the prices of golf up in the northern burbs still has a bit of sticker shock to me lol. Can’t wait to check it out

since moving up to Schaumburg/ Arlington Heights area I’ve been playing Highland Woods quite a bit. Been to Schaumburg Golf Club and a few out toward Elgin but the walking rate at Highland Woods keeps me coming back

Poking around, I found this tid bit:

“In preparation for the 1997 U.S. Amateur qualifying three new holes, a par 3, par 4, and par 5 were constructed to create the present-day “U.S. Amateur” layout.”

I’m guessing the new par 3 was on Dubsdread, and 9/10 were built to replace the two holes on Ravines.

Office gave us next Friday the 30th off, thinking of going out to Byron again to get another crack at PraireView if anyone is interested and not working that day.

Finally got out there after hearing all of the ridicule. Was a ton of fun, cool property on the back 9, tough fairway bunkers on every tee shot, etc. Just not anywhere near worth the $175-225 price tag anymore. Seems to be trending more towards the $75-85 value to me.

I have a tough time taking price/value out of the equation when comparing public courses. Like, is Shepherd’s Crook actually better than the Glen Club or Dubs or am I completely blinded by getting raked over the coals?

Also, did you wake up and immediately log on and reply to this before WBB?

You almost need to put public courses in price tiers/location before you start comparing. Otherwise you bring in too many factors for my bird brain to calculate.

And yes, the 5 min walk to the car at 4:30am gets lonely.

What is the condition of the wedges?

I’ll take the ping putter.

Whew…I dodged a bullet with those wedges having moved out of Chicago! Matching set for that price is right up my alley.

I’d say they’re decent - i’ve gamed them for several years, 10-20 rounds a year normally. FWIW, when i got fitted at CC two years ago, the fitter said the grooves and heads were still good, so he only flipped out the shafts. Probably 20-30 rounds on them since then. Still plenty of spin on them imo

I’ll take them if Dimitre doesn’t. Ive been using a mixed set of wedges and refuse to carry all 3 because I don’t trust myself.

How can I fix that? Buy more clubs!

Buy more wedges and then pit them against one another. It’s the club’s fault. Works great.

Sounds good, I’ll DM if he doesn’t want them.
