We have a great whatsapp group going of Austin and San Antonio people if you’re interested. Still trying to get us all organized and everything but there’s usually pretty good chat in there.
Shoot me a DM if you want me to add you!

Plum Creek is a nightmare to book right now. It’s tournament after tournament after tournament.
What’s the deal with Grey Rock? All the reviews are semi-bad, but from my short visit to the driving range, it looks pretty nice.
I personally love Grey Rock, though I don’t get to play it much. Southwest Austin landscape is, to me, where the hill country kinda begins. So there’s a lot of twisted live oaks and rock outcroppings.
Played there two weeks ago, and some regulars were complaining about the greens, but compared to Mo Willie and Lions, I felt like a queen.
GR has a pretty hard core local MGA/WGA group, dating from back when it was semi-private. It’s always been more of a standalone scene, vs. the other public courses. It’s also normally in really good shape, so when they get transition conditions, people get grumpy. I was out there last weekend, it’s in A+ shape for a muni, probably B- for what they normally expect. There’s a State Am qualifier in two weeks, I bet they’ll have it geared up by then.
Best driving range in the city, although they’re only on grass Thu-Sun.
I also fully agree with CapnTex; it’s a good-to-great layout, with great visuals and some fun variety. There are a couple of pretty terrible holes (10 green complex, I’m looking at you), but overall it’s a great track.
Ask @SaveMuny how he feels about the green complex on 10 from the last time we played out there

Anyone in San Antonio up for some golf? Will be there this weekend.
Can someone remind me the reasoning behind Golf ATX blocking weekend booking online on Tuesday? Is it just a big FU to anyone who uses a computer?
No real reason other than it gives people who can come in person before 7am first dibs, people who can get on the phone between 7am and 11am second dibs, and then internet third dibs. I think they should get rid of the phone system and just open it up on the internet at 7am. But I appreciate the in-person booking before 7am, makes it a little fairer if you really want a weekend tee time
Was looking at the GolfATX membership page yesterday. There is zero incentive to do any of the membership plans. It’s funny how bad they are at pricing these things.
No shit, last time I tried to call for a tee time at Lions I called right at 7 and I had to call 45 times and finally got someone by 710. Earliest weekend tee time was like 1130 by then
i’ve ranted about the way it’s all setup plenty of times on here, might be the most common thing i’ve posted about hahahaha
found that it’s easier for my sanity to just wake up at 6am, grab a cup of coffee and drive to whichever course i want to play that weekend and make the tee time in person around 630-645. whole trip takes me just under 45 minutes and is 100% successful vs calling 8 million times on my phone with a crapshoot of what times will still be available
Beating the Geriatric Cartel at their own game. I like it.
The thing is, it was 7:00am Tuesday for both phone and internet until a couple of years ago. It used to work pretty well.

Zero incentive unless you are 60 and/or retired. Then it becomes a pretty good deal. I am neither.
GolfATX just needs to make people pay for tee times when they book. You can show up to just about any of the munis at any time as a single and get on as a single or double without too much issue because it’s way too easy to hold a time just in case you feel like playing, and almost nobody cancels even if they don’t go.
I’m a member, but only because I play a ton and cost-wise it pays for itself after 50-ish rounds a year (I’m at 44 so far this year). Outside of that, you get absolutely nothing.
Slow your roll there on that first sentence. That’s how I am able to play almost anytime I want out there. Just show up and I’m good to go. Now for those of you who have people who actually like to golf with you, you are kind of screwed.
@left this one too
