I’m liking these Crash-Course-like Alberta rundowns. Look at that sky right?
Played McCall over the weekend, City of Calgary Course. Renovations finished last year I think. First time I’ve played here in a few years. Parking lot and new outdoor area would be perfect for a Food Truck.
Fairly good early round of the year layout, good for beginners, wide fairways, good for me.
Fun hole: #7 Par 4, 330yds. Room to carry behind bunker, or lay it short, leaving longer shot for a shallow-ish green. Made a Mega4 after hitting the water. Nice view of the city, mountains behind it, Industrial parks, incoming planes, and for us this day, the impending rain clouds doomfully making its way over.
Hey all,
I am part of the organizing committee for the Priddis Greens Charity Classic, a charity tournament that has been supporting the Calgary Prostate Cancer Centre for the last 21 years. With the covid restrictions we have seen a large negative impact on our fundraising abilities through this tournament due to reduced field size and other contributing factors. As a way to supplement some of this we are currently running an online 50/50 that is open to all Alberta residents until the end of May with a minimum cash prize of $4000. Tickets are available starting at $10 at Rafflebox - The easy way to fundraise!
Please share this with your circles if you’re so inclined and feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Also if this violates any rules let me know and I will remove it.
Thanks!
Just bought some - happy to support a good cause.
Thanks Cav, appreciate the support!

This describes my feelings on Blue Devil perfectly. Always in good shape, enjoy playing it, but very repetitive. I haven’t played it yet this year, will have to give it another chance.
honestly, Gary Browning has never built a golf course with 18 good holes. Blue Devil is probably his best work as it avoids the severe pit falls of his other projects.
Honestly, for what the course was supposed to be Blue Devil is a joke. When, the best course on site is the kids 9 hole. There is something wrong there. Even that has a the lawsuit waiting to happen that is the 9th tee deck that needs to be moved before someone gets hurt.
This all being said in a market where every public/semi-private needs course a major renovation. Blue Devil excapes wider critism through being bland and having good conditions.
Are you on here Carter?
Well as these things go sometimes there are late plans afoot for some golf travel for me. Will be heading south through the Calgary(ish) area friday Sept 24th on my way ultimately to be in Kamloops for Saturday evening.
So far I have Sunday rounds booked at eagle point, and tobiano, as well as a Monday round again at tobiano before heading home.
I’m looking to play somewhere along the way Friday early afternoon and was initially thinking kananaskis but the tee times are all booked up.
Any calgary area guys want to get out for an afternoon round with a rando from up north? I may end up playing sundre, but am open to ideas.
I’m meeting two buddies Saturday afternoon for a round en route but we’ve yet to figure out where. I’ll probably play a morning round before linking up with the other two. Talk of anything from mickelson to revelstoke. So far most things are pretty booked up which has eliminated kananaskis, Stewart creek, and grey wolf.
Any recommendations for saturday? Considering revelstoke golf club as an option, anything exciting in radium? We haven’t looked at Banff but I don’t think that’s a goer for us.
Hi everyone!
I am looking into getting a membership at a Calgary course for the 2022 golf season. Does anyone have any recommendations for a course that isn’t overly expensive with a good group of members?I would love to meet some new people and get a few weekly games going.
Might be too far, and basically closer to Kamloops, but played Talking Rock earlier this year, and thought that was a great track to play.
Thanks the plans have evolved slightly and my partners for Saturday bailed. The good part is that I’m playing talking rock solo now as a result as they had room for singles. No dice on kananaskis still so I’m playing sundre Friday on my way through. I’m excited to check it out, I’ve driven past it once while I was working in sundre and it looked great from the road!
Season’s greeting alberta golfers. Just poking this up to add some life to the alberta talk around the roost and so on.
It would be fun to have stronger numbers here of course but not a lot of control over that. I did sign up for the nest afterall myself as I truly enjoy the content the nlu guys create and want to support that, and be a part of this community. I’m always happy for golf talk and this fills that hole.
I saw a mention of PINZ as an option to play matches virtually and that sounds like something that we could achieve. I don’t know exactly how that works but would be willing to figure it out if it made for some semblance of a local alberta group.
I saw and understood @Bunk 's comments regarding the mayhem group as it does feel like an existing group parachuting into this concept. Ideally those players involved would jump in here and join the fun but honestly to date they’re only slightly less involved than I’ve been as far as event participation. Sure I’ve posted here and there and played with a fellow refugee but other than that I’ve mostly been on the outside. Even the opposition to the other group coming sort of feels like keeping it all exclusive which isn’t the point either. If these are the steps towards a stronger western Canadian contingent then giddyup.
The situation that raised my eyes the most is say mayhem wins, and one of the non-refugees wins the spot/s that’s a downer. Not sure on if that would be possible. I was encouraged at least to see that @Double_Bogey_Dave had made the point that the format currently will ensure a Canadian team is represented one way or another but it doesn’t remove the initial comments about “others” jumping in as a roost in Vancouver.
Anyways hope everyone’s well and I look forward to 2022 alberta events.
No one can advance to regionals without being a Nest Member if that is helpful.
-41 with the windchill here is Calgary today…
Hope for some games this summer!
This weather STINKS! Would gladly be dodging others golf balls and listening to the drone of Deerfoot at Fox Hollow right now…
Ahem - that’s TPC Fox Hollow
So as the very early feels of golf season is on the horizon, can we start to think about some dates for our wolf creek get together? We can have some fun and whinge about being left out of the maple leaf and canuck roosts. We can also plan how to form our own roost and win from the middle.
I’m looking at a fairly busy June right now so my early dates for seeing all of you on a course is looking like may/july. It’s just a day however and it would be a ton of fun if we could make it for more than one of these a season.
Count me in!
